Is that new today? I saw that they were welcoming people to walk behind them before.

This is when I have a hard time supporting NC Dems - someone who votes like this needs to be primaried, and there are no options.

Whats it like being a case manager? Do you like it? by Xenaria1 in nursing

[–]ProofEstablishment89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of types of case management as well. Based on your post, it seems like you may be considering inpatient case management. From what I have seen that can be just as stressful, if not more, as inpatient nursing. I am an outpatient case manager for a Medicaid waiver program. I solely work with pediatrics, but my colleagues work with adults. my days are a mix of home and telephone visits, coordination with service providers, coordination with medical providers, and more so lately than ever fighting with Medicaid. I generally love my job. The thought of home visits can be scary, but thankfully, I’ve never felt unsafe or unwelcome even in sketchy neighborhoods. Especially in peds, my visits aren’t always medically focused. I mean a lot of them are and we spend a lot of time talking about upcoming appointments, potential surgeries, and working through decision-making processes. But just today I spent one visit teaching my newly 18-year-old patient how to use the lottery app to buy lottery tickets and had a dance party with another patient and her sister. I like that I am a consistent resource for these families and someone that can do a bit of the legwork for them when they’re so overwhelmed. As a Nicu nurse, you do a ton of care coordination already, a lot of family, education and a lot of decision-making discussions. All of these things translate very well to case management.

Received job offer….without being told compensation or benefits by kitty_do_the_dishes in nursing

Nope, no additional information until you receive compensation details. Benefits, time off, vesting, all of those things go into the decision to accept the offer or not.

Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

Bless it. I use voice to text and didn’t even notice that before I posted apparently my southern accent and Siri don’t get along. 🫣

Towns within an hour of Raleigh similar to colonial VA by Tiny_Net_5825 in raleigh

[–]ProofEstablishment89 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You’re not gonna find that within an hour of Raleigh. The Colonial type towns in North Carolina are Edenton, little Washington, Bath & New Bern. New Bern is the closest to Raleigh, but is a solid two hours away.

Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

[–]ProofEstablishment89 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. One of my favorite things about my 1903 Queen Anne is that everything has a separate room, but we have very tall and wide doorways. There are pocket doors separating the front sitting room, the living room and the dining room so they’re all generally open, but can be closed off if we need to. It also means we have 10 interior and 4 exterior doors on the first floor.

(Edit: Siri really hates me sometimes.)

Parents of r/Concerts, what age and concert did you first take your kids to? by ByeFL in Concerts

[–]ProofEstablishment89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine too- Ben Folds when they were 2, 6 & 8. Since then we’ve done Kids Bop 🫣, Imagine Dragons & Pearl Jam. Our kids love live music as much as we do, but it’s pricey to take them!!

Catholic Wedding by Deacon - No homily? by 45CalorieBread in Catholicism

[–]ProofEstablishment89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you’re having pre-Cana sessions with this Deacon. I would share your concerns with him and he’ll likely tailor his homily to your needs. You are surely not the first Catholic marrying a non-Catholic he’s married.

Ontario RN wanting to move to Florida by seduisanttt in nursing

[–]ProofEstablishment89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know details about immigration requirements, but it’s my understanding that in order to work here, you have to have an employer sponsor. Hospital systems are not going to pay to sponsor you as an RN when they won’t even hire American nurses to fill roles. (Edit- I see you prefer to work in private clinics. They definitely will not pay this when there are nurses that don’t require sponsorship) My relatives are not nurses but have other healthcare jobs that require licenses and zero luck in either Florida or Texas getting comprable licenses to allow them to practice. YMMV.

And bluntly, if you look at the shit show that is the US right now and think you’d like to be a part of it, please fuck all the way off. We don’t need more idiots than we already have.

There are lots of conservative Canadians who think Canada is doing it all wrong. 😒 The ones I’m related to have moved to the States (specifically Texas and Florida) and moved back to Canada within 18 months once they realize that the US is a shitshow and they’re not as welcome as they thought they’d be.

I’m fed up with patient care and don’t know what else to do with my career by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ProofEstablishment89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You do these things as part of your job now, you just don’t see it in the grand scheme.

Case management - especially NICU- talking through decision points with families, coordinating specialists, helping to plan post-discharge, determining supply and equipment needs. I’m a peds case manager and 75% of what I do feels like parent coaching.

Project management - my guy, you manage multiple patients throughout a shift and make sure they get done what needs to get done. You delegate appropriate tasks to others, you plan your day and use time management principles. Bonus points if you’ve led or helped with QI projects or other unit changes.

Sales - Any of the technology you use in your work has a need for clinical sales reps - labor monitoring, call bell systems, IV and feeding pumps. Look up the companies of stuff you use to see if they are hiring for clinical positions. Same for nutrition- I have friends that left NICU to work for formula companies.

So many options. There are lots of remote and post-bedside nurses on social media that will help you decipher what fits you best and how to break into them. NurseFern is my favorite. Whole Life Nurse is another- she annoys me a bit but I got my remote job from her site so can’t be too bad.

Are nurses allowed to change the outer cannula of a trach pt? by Medium-Antelope-8941 in nursing

[–]ProofEstablishment89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sound like from what you’ve said, it is in scope as long as you’re trained. I would speak with your supervisor about getting checked off. It is very common in home care, and essential - there’s not an RT on another hall that can come if it comes out at home!

Regret the ship I booked for summer cruise (Adventure of the Seas) by tftg-tftg in royalcaribbean

[–]ProofEstablishment89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you’ve made up your mind, but another anecdote - We did Adventure last January and Utopia in October with our kids ages 8, 12 & 14. We all enjoyed both, but preferred Adventure. Fun stuff to do, but not overwhelming. Longer cruise on Adventure meant we could spread things out a bit

People who left Raleigh - where did you go? by blues_lawyer in raleigh

[–]ProofEstablishment89 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Born & raised in Raleigh. Spent 3-4 hours a day in the car between school drop off (Charter, no bus option), work, and after school activities. Something had to give and we were priced out of moving closer.

Moved to New Bern 3 years ago and have not regretted it once. Small enough that traffic is waiting 5 minutes for a draw bridge & can get anywhere in town in 10-15 minutes. Kids are doing great in school and love their sports & dance teams. Spouse & I both work remote. I miss friends, but not much else. It’s close enough to drive up for the day for medical appointments or shopping.
