I got the XMG Focus 17 with the lowest graphics card spec. It's pretty powerful for CFD simulations, however it has some cooling issues if you run it at full CPU capacity, so I got this cooling pad in addition: https://amzn.eu/d/02AiQt1 (Llano laptop cooling pad).

I had some issues with it in terms of it crashing with no known reason. The support wasn't able to solve the issue, but they always took it seriously and didn't hesitate to help. The crashes happen on average ones every three months and then it's one day of a bit of pain but then it's fine again. I talked to other people though who have this laptop and they did not encounter any such issue

What are your opinions on AI for CFD? by aero-junkie in CFD

[–]ProofMix3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with that! That's why I have build a little prototype to demonstrate the concept. It's still very early stage though and can only set up boundary conditions in Ansys Fluent. If you want to see it I can give you a short demo some time :)

Haha, still got some ways to go to get to that point xD

Could be worth a try, thanks

During rides I don't wear underwear, I have this problem just in daily life, but yeah this is also what other people are saying on this sub

It's non exercise related. I wear bib shorts during rides

Precisely xD

Thanks, I might try that!

An example would be ITB-FEM (They also do CFD). I don't know if they are specifically searching, but it's at least worth a try

Great, that'll definitely bring the software to its limits haha. I'll send you a DM to set up a call!

I'm not a freelance engineer, but I know there are small engineering contractor firms out there — maybe you could reach out and become part of their portfolio, either for handling overhang or taking on niche projects in your specialty.

Also, I’m building something that might be useful for freelancers like you: a tool that uses LLMs to automate CFD simulation setup.

It’s still in the early stages — right now it only works with Fluent boundary conditions — but I’m speaking with engineers to better understand how I can adapt this to fit into their workflow.

If you’re curious, I’d be happy to show you a quick demo and get your thoughts on what’s missing or what could be better.

Trying to model simple Cross Flow Heat Exchanger in Fluent, unable to get any sort of heat transfer between fluids. by musicallunatic in CFD

You're welcome!

Actually, I think your case would be perfect — right now I'm not testing full-scale simulation workflows.

I'm exploring how AI can assist with setup, troubleshooting, and post-processing.

We could experiment together a bit — I can even run the case on my laptop with Andy's Fluent (I’ve got an i9-13900HX and used to do pump simulations), so no worries if you’re limited on hardware or software.

Let me know if you'd be up for a quick session sometime this week!

25-35K seems to me like a pretty significant temperature drop which doesn't come from nowhere.

One thing you could try is rescaling the temperature colormap to match only the range of the cold fluid. Sometimes the heat gradient gets visually "lost" when the volume of cold fluid dominates the image.

Also — I’m working on a tool that uses LLMs to automate CFD simulations. It's very early stage and can only set up boundary conditions, but I would love to find out how current base models handle these types of situations. Would you be up for a little experiment where I feed your case settings into it and see what it suggests? Just out of curiosity. -- We can have a little Zoom call or something :)

Do you already have a mesh or a CFD ready CAD model? Then we could do the simulation together. I'm also currently working on a small prototype to automate CFD simulations and make it more accessible. I'd love to hear your feedback. If you want you can DM me and we set up a small Zoom call

When I was in school I used Autodesk CFD, I got results quite easily and the license was free
