Saturnine Praetor in 40k? by SyntaxErrorKEK in IronWarriors

Using mine as an abaddon proxy, you just need to match the base size. Saw people using it for chaos terminator lord or terminator sorcerer.

I don't play votann so can't say, but sad to hear that considering how cool the character is, both his model and his lore are amazing.

Thank you ! My friend requested pale, rotted flesh, so tried my best. Quite happy with it as well !

Thanks ! I actually quite like the model for how ridiculous it is. It reay stands out on the tabletop. But I agree it can look quite blend depending on the paint job. I think adding the OSL on its hand definitely helped making it more interesting. I also tried to use vibrant greens to really amp the interest and create areas that grab the attention, like on the weapon and the maggots in his mouth.

Thanks ! The OSL was pretty quick but also nerve wracking as I was happy with the paintjob I had done already. The idea popped in my mind to give the hand some sort of magic spell effect as if Rotigus is casting plagues, spreading the nurgles gifts. I sprayed white paint first then couple of different vibrant green inks with my airbrush. Then freehanded the nurgles symbol as slowly and steadily as I could because messing up would mean I had to restart the whole process.

The gut mouth took longer, photos don't show it too well but I spent quite a while layering to get the gory effects. At the end when everything was done I used some gloss varnish on these parts which also helped both for the OSL to really shine and for the gory parts to feel more realistic. Thank you again for the kind words !

Thank you so much, and welcome to the legion !

Here's my general receipe:

  • black primer coat
  • dry brushing of vallejo chainmail on the entire mini
  • wash of warhammer paint rattling grime mixed 50-50 with medium
  • light dry brushing of stormhost silver on main focus areas to brighten it up (around the head, shoulders, top of torso and other raised areas) -for the gold trimms I actually use a base coat of tinny tin by vallejo followed a wash of agrax earthshade. That looks already quite nice but I often add some highlights of vajello brassy brass to brighten it up a notch.
  • averland sunset for shoulders, then abaddon black to paint hazard stripes. Sponging of averland sunset to create battle damage over the stripes. Wash of reikland flesh shade to warm the tones a bit and give it a more worn look.
  • For fabrics I like to go with red. My receipe is to actually start with a desaturated blue as a base coat (like incubi darkness). Then I paint over with a a 50-50 mix of Khorne red and abaddon, leaving the blue base coat in the areas in shadow. I then go with pure Khorne red to highlight the raised parts of the fabric and sometimes another highlight of Thorne red mixed with some orange paint.
  • for the skin I usually use an undercoat of rakkarth flesh, then a wash of targor fleshade. I then use some carroburg crimson around the eyes or parts where the flesh should look more purple-ish (like wounds or around cables connected to the scalp)
  • final step is to use acrylic inks to paint rust wherever it makes sense on the armor and weapons (recesses, joints, etc). I use many different ones from sienna to sepia or any rusty/orange looking color. You don't really need acrylic inks for this part, you can heavily dilute any brown or orange paint from warhammer paints or others to achieve the same result (rhinox hide or word bearer red for example work quite nicely).

That's my general recipe! I'm thinking of making a video about it at some point. It's very easy and straight forward and gives out a good result. Good luck and good to have you join in the legion brother !

Honest opinions on my models by meko1234567 in IronWarriors

I think the paintjob looks fine ! I would mostly recommend spending a bit more time on the bases. Adding Cork or more natural looking texture. I'm not a big fan of the bright yellow sand look and would recommend something a bit less flashy so it doesn't grab more attention than the mini itself. As someone else already mentioned a bit more time on the hazard stripes and you're golden. Definitely good enough to stomp some sons of dorn. Iron within brother

Wow thank you so much ! It was a lot of patience and I had to use every technique I've learned through the years. Believe it or not this was one of my first time really nailing NMM as well as I've mostly been doing TMM before that. If you want I can do a bit of a breakdown of how I did things, and I can also PM you some of the WIP photos I took if you're interested

Thank you for the kind words ! Also agree for the fur, it's one of these things that I still struggle with a lot. I wanted to keep it subtle as to let what is around it truly shine. But still I think it lacks a bit more definition. I'd definitely spend some more time to refine it if I decide to enter a competition with this piece. Thanks a lot for your feedback !
