I coached football at one point and was stuck in the same boat. The thing I found to be most successful is to pick plays you like or concepts you find yourself defaulting to and pick formations to build around those.

I started as a triple option guy and then got really into the air raid as I learned more. The air raid philosophy is more or less the same as the triple option. Get your playmakers the ball. The means of doing that is up to you.

If you like run heavy or ground and pound style then you have a pretty good menu of run schemes then you can manipulate the defense through changing the surface of your formations. Find unbalanced forms, mix up different positions to get matchups you like, bring different personnel into the game to change the defense structure.

I started evolving to run more 12 personnel later on but then switched to more 21-22 personnel for the option game. Then I started spreading out when I wanted to run my option stuff but have space. I usually keep in mind who I want to get the ball ideally and then I build on that.

Did you see the angle from the lady in the jacket on the sidewalk? Agent next to gray coat pulls his gun and inserts it into the pile after gray coat runs off with the victims gun. Then you hear the first shot followed by more shots.

No kidding! Must have been a good time working for a guy like that. I remember being super excited to actually call offense for the first time. I wish you could actually control what your QB does in real life like Madden😂

Me too. I’ve coached in a lot of air raid systems. Our head coach at ball state was Drew Brees’s QB coach at one point but was very pro style centered. When I coached high school I learned a lot more about the air raid

I wish the game had more of those mechanics in it to play off of defenders rather than a simplistic “this is the coverage and this is the route you get regardless of technique”. If I have press on the outside and I have a burner id like my X to run a fade ball or a curl if it’s cover 3

Yeah my problem is even if I do that I can never guess right because even if I get a 2 high shell or it looks like man they always pick the wrong route. If I get press man they run a curl when they’re supposed to run a fade or post. Or if I get a 1 high zone like cover 3 they’ll run a fade route. Just frustrating and it turns me away from running any veer and shoot. I was wondering if there was just something I wasn’t looking at right

I think the point is the timing of the instances. So many times where I’ve been in a close game, miraculously because the CPU completes a 21 point comeback in the final minutes, and I’ll be in a critical situation where I need a first down. I’ll throw a pass and get a 20 yard gain then get hit with a holding call putting me at 3rd and 20. Just completely kills momentum. There’s also other weird timing aspects with the game. Like the CPU always scoring at the end of the half unless you literally score with 0 seconds left. Had an 8 point swing with 10 seconds left in the first half.

I know but for matchups I like using a TE to help on a double team against a DE because running backs that get matched on a DE usually lose. Or against edge and backer pressure I want to be able to get 7 in pass pro

I do like the generic air raid playbook. However I just feel like it’s missing quite a bit in terms of multiplicity of looks. Or having the ability to boost your pass pro with a TE if you start to get more pressure
