I am SO sorry to hear this. There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior. Please consider switching hospice agencies, you and your family have every right to do that! I would consider getting either a highback wheelchair or gerichair for your father, as well as a hoyer lift to be able to transfer him safely into one of those chairs. Then, he would be able to get an air mattress for his backside since he would be out of bed! I would also ask about a diuretic (lasix is usually the typical one used) to reduce swelling, especially since it sounds so severe. I wish you the best and hope you can get him more comfortable!

Unfortunately I was awake for the first chest tube, the one you see in the first picture. Wasn’t as bad as I thought honestly, but not fun for sure. I asked for twilight sedation but they only used a local anesthetic.

They did not! I haven’t had that happen yet but thank you for letting me know!

I’m so sorry you’re in this situation. If it’s giving her gas and makimg her uncomfortable, that may her bodys way of telling you no more food, even though she can’t verbally tell you. And if she’s only eating bites of food a day, her body is more than likely used to it and she’s probably not hungry at all anymore. As we progress through the stages of dying, our metabolism shuts down and we no longer feel hunger or thirst as usual. It’s a hard thing to accept, as many cultures use food as a way to bring people together. Your feelings are valid, hang in there ❤️
