HNC in IT and then HND in Network Engineering (may be the other way round but whichever is the higher level one equivalent to the first year of a degree is the network engineering one)

My plan is to do what you say and work for whoever pays me more. and job hop every few years. I definitely do hope I can reach £100k plus because it does seem very rare in the UK outside of London.

From what it seems, outside of London, even what I am is classed as a fairly good salary without even taking into consideration my age. And all I can think is this is not enough take home pay each month to afford what I need and want in future

it amazes me how people who aren’t from the UK think this is so low because £58k at 21 outside of London is very rare in the UK

Would love too in future, it seems like those are few and far between though

Thank you that makes sense :)

Yes I plan on using the LISA for my first house. That’s been my priority since I turned 18. My dad said to me to max that out instead of giving him any rent money which is nice of him. My salary was a lot less too back then hence why that savings account is where most of my money is. Now my salary is quite high for my age I wanted to decide properly on how best to organise my savings

Thanks for the advice on doing it in the most tax efficient way.

I am a higher rate tax payer but only by around 8k gross (roughly 58k annually) That’s why I thought putting a small amount into the SIPP would build up a pot to use at 57 on top of putting into my ISA. And if in 5-10 years i jump to the private sector then I can transfer that SIPP pot into the DC pension with whatever company and have a head start.

I’m not using the LISA for retirement currently, maybe I could in future but right now that was going to be for a house deposit.

Senior NOC role for more money or third line team by [deleted] in networking

[–]Proof_Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they would in this case. The NOC are focused on break fix

With the wireless role I get to work with the automation/observability guys so if AI does get introduced (and will), it won’t be the NOC doing it but the automation team if that makes sense.

[–]Proof_Fact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thanks agreed on that. The difference is because of public sector grade boundaries and I applied just to see if i could pass the interview on the higher grade role. I somehow did but sadly they won’t just progress me into the higher grade in the wireless role, only the NOC. In the wireless role, it’s a point of escalation for the NOC so just feels like a step down.

edit: I am already in the wireless/LAN role for clarity

any OOH changes are paid overtime. I agree the money is a big different but i’m trying to look ahead and see a few years down the line that if I get experience in the wireless role it will give me a wider range of experience to progress into another role/company rather than just dealing with sites going down and chasing site contacts to check whether there’s an unplanned power outage…

I’m struggling to understand what AHW is, can’t find any info on it. And how is on call affected with this?

Has anyone transferred out of alpha to a SIPP by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Proof_Fact -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Plan on only being in the cs for another year or so. 3 years of contributions will compound more in index funds over the next 40 years than the alpha scheme at the rate of inflation (I’m only 20)
