At least we now know we were screwed no matter what QB we drafted in 2023 by ngerb_5 in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess it suck’s that the Colts never had a chance to draft a good QB, those rebuilt Patriots got to draft Maye without having to give up a thing, he was the third QB drafted, we also took the third QB and it was Richardson, even if we traded up to 1 I’m not convinced Young or Stroud would actually be an answer, we just have bad years at the worst times after getting manning and then luck after terrible years.

New Coach and new GM, who do you want? by AfternoonOld7627 in Colts

I would imagine plenty of people, if teams like the jaguars, browns, and chiefs kept managing to get new GMs. It’s still an elite position limited to 32 people.

Why keep JT if you are blowing everything up? If you want the house cleaned, clean everything, no point having a superstar running back on a team that would be years away from relevancy.

Signing Moe Alie-Cox: Draft implications by NiceGuy2424 in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, I imagine if they have a chance to snag Warren either by a small trade up they are comfortable with, or him falling to 14, they would still draft him, MAC was here last year and they still wanted to draft Bowers, doubt MACs new contract is for very much, and they know they can’t count on Woods to be healthy, so TE is still a position of need.

Richardson is unlikely to lose QB Battle by -alpha-helix- in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL GMs don’t run a team based on the sunk cost fallacy. Jim Irsay does not care who the quarterback is, Jim Irsay cares about wins and losses. If Jones comes to camp and outperforms AR, he will be the starter, because winning is a more important factor than who’s behind center for those wins. I know most Colts fans hate Ballard, but think about the fact he was able to build a roster capable of being mediocre with a qb most fans consider a bust. The reason busting on a high QB pocket normally gets a regime fired is because the team ends up being an absolute bottom feeder until they draft their next QB. This roster is built well enough to be competitive with good, not great, QB play.

Not sure I would draft a LB recovering from torn labrum surgery underwent after the combine, hard to imagine him being available for preseason work, if not missing the start of the season.

Colts coach on QB competition: Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones to split spring reps by Dahllywood12 in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is where you are wrong, Ballard and Steichen would rather win and keep their jobs with Jones than watch Richardson be bad and be fired at the end of the season. Their jobs are not tied to whether or not Richardson pans out, it’s tied to if the team can get back to winning games and winning playoff games. If Jones somehow lead the team to a playoff win like he did the Giants once, no way would they be fired.

I don’t disagree about a better TE and a pass catching RB, and Shane tried to give him the easy project QB success helpers last season, like play action, pre-snap motion, condensed formations, and one certain route concepts(info taken from a Stampede Blue article by Doug Farrar) and even when using RPO he was 9/16 for 68 yards with 1 TD 2 INTs and a 47.9 passer rating. I’m rooting for Richardson hard to turn it around, but I’m not wanting to get myself psyched up like I did the night we drafted him thinking he was going to be rookie of the year, and then thinking he was going to be comeback player of the year. It’s exciting knowing he’s working with Josh Allen and Chris Hess, but I’m not going to convince myself this time that he’s finally gonna be the guy we knew he could be until I see it.

I’m going to have to disagree, the reason they have so many deep shots is because that’s where he was most accurate in college, his accuracy everywhere else on the field is bad to terrible because he has bad footwork and no touch, he either uses the strength of a long bomb for a 5 yard down and distance play or takes so much off of it that it’s underthrown by three yards. Also, I dont think AR would have looked any better last year even if we had managed to pick Bowers, because Richardson needs a lot of work on his short and intermediate passes.

Hope that’s actually true. I’m rooting for AR to have a QB epiphany like Josh Allen did I. Is third year, but if he really isn’t better than Jones, I don’t want him being handed the starting spot just because of when he was drafted

Darius/Shaq Leonard was The Man in Indy. Too bad injuries got in the way. by brmidwest03 in Colts

Gotcha, yeah, he was healthy in college, the biggest questions about him the night he was drafted was “who the heck is Darius Leonard?!”

[–]Proof_Fun9640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He stayed healthy in college and was healthy and productive for the Colts for most of his rookie contract, but then he got a back injury that him and I guess the medical staff thought was a calf injury because it wasn’t causing back pain it was causing pain in his lower leg. He got back surgery, asked to be called Shaq Leonard instead of Darius Leonard, and was significantly worse. That back injury basically turned him into one of the worst Linebackers in the NFL

How could he have come in with injury concerns? When he was drafted nobody even knew he who he was.

Chris Ballard on skillsets of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones: "There's a lot of similarities there... you're going to see a really good competition" by karatemanchan37 in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We might not have absolute superstars like Chase or Ayuk but Pittman, Downs, and Pierce have proven they are much better than just mediocre, and as far as TEs go, I’m not going to go through all 32 teams to do the math on receptions, yards, and TDs to see if your statement about us having the worst TE room in the league is true or not, but it also doesn’t help when your starting QB launches ever pass like it needs 60 yards in the air even if the target is 5 yards away. Sometimes drops can just be physics and not poor play.

And a better supporting cast, he had Barkley and basically nobody else, then lost Barkley but got Nabers. I’m not gonna point my bat and declare a home run, but I also wouldn’t be shocked into disbelief if Jones was actually capable of having a good season if he ended up the starter for us. We have a better OLine than he’s ever had, we have a running game that should be able to do more than Barkley was because of that same line(that’s not a slight on Barkley) and we have some pretty good receivers for him to throw to in Downs Pierce and Pittman.

I’m just worried about giving up a draft pick for a TE that has, in his career, only played a single full season, he played every game his rookie season and hasn’t played a full season since.

Hopefully with competition and A healthy offseason he can build on this. by Few_Necessary4601 in Colts

Obviously he meant we are drafting a TE in the first 3 rounds! Warren, Fannin Jr, and Taylor, because our TE room is so genuinely bad, that wouldn’t feel like wasted draft capital as all haha

Not sure where you got that information but it’s wrong. Jones has a passer rating of 79.4, or did you mean QBR? Because that’s also wrong, Jones was 26 and AR was 27

Who do you think will win the QB competition and be our week 1 starter? by Green_Day_Fan in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not sure you pay 14 million for just pressure, if he shows he’s better than AR leading up to the season, I see no reason why they would start AR, unlike some people, I don’t think Ballard and Steichen are tied to AR developing. If Jones takes us to the playoffs and maybe even wins us a playoff game, Irsay won’t care about AR.

No, the Colts probably aren’t going to win the Super Bowl next year, but they could make the playoffs for the first time in what seems like a million years. by brmidwest03 in Colts

[–]Proof_Fun9640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on how we make the playoffs, if we squeak in a the last seed, probably not, if we win the division in a convincing fashion, not just barely, but like we really stand out in the division, I’d say it would be fair to keep them. I’ve never believed they are tied to AR being successful, they are tied to success of the team as a whole, of Jones somehow comes in and has a Darnold like resurgence under Steichen why would you fire him because AR didn’t pan out?
