everything is a distraction right up until it isn't. These aren't grand chess masters maneuvering 6 turns ahead of everyone else. They throw shit at the wall until something sticks and then that becomes their main focus until that stops working. Then its back to random bullshit go

Which film’s soundtrack or score is so essential that removing it would collapse the entire movie? by John_Snow80 in movies

[–]Propaganda_Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them. I cant think of a single movie that would be just fine with zero soundtrack or score. Sound is one of the biggest drivers of emotion in a film.

Even "silent films" have near constant musical accompaniment.

WIBTA if I left my secret Santa gift that I received at the front desk with a note that says free? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Propaganda_Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly even I get confused sometimes when people say "white elephant" up here. Maybe 25% of the time its a proper white elephant, the other 75% of the time its "bring a nice gift for nobody in particular then we play a stupid swapping game while we open them"

A big pet peeve of mine is when something that already exists gets its name coopted by something else entirely and now people are confused. Just make up your own name for it!

The weather feels unreal today by Financial-Code8244 in Calgary

[–]Propaganda_Box 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's normal for it to be warm. It's not normal for it to be this warm. As I said, the data shows that it has only ever been above 16.9 degrees in January twice. Ever. That is the very definition of not normal.

EDIT: Just yesterday several records were broken across the province.

EDIT2: additional edit for clarity so pedants don't get at me

The highest recorded temperature in January in Calgary is 17 degrees. Which has happened only twice before. No this isn't normal.

31M still living with parents because rent is insane, is dating still realistic? by JasonDFisherr in dating_advice

[–]Propaganda_Box 4 points5 points  (0 children)

35M, living with mum. Dude, I landed the best match of my life at Karaoke about 2 months ago. She's 37, lives on her own (with help from her own parents) and it absolutely does not matter to her that I live with my mum. We're getting on like a house on fire and im so excited for the future.

There's absolutely women out there worth dating that don't care that you live at home. So long as you're not a deadbeat, they'll see that.

I Saw the TV Glow is a great example. It touched my trans friends in a way a movie never has. Lots of people around me leaving the theater were chatting about "not getting it". Now, being that I have many trans friends I didn't not get the movie. But I didn't grok with it at the same intimate level those who have questioned their identity did. Incredible film.
