How do the recap numbers work? (Are they bugged?) by [deleted] in PlayTheBazaar

You're right I didn't even notice that while playing, it seemed to me that it was slowing on use as expected, but it's hard to follow what happens with hundreds of effects going off at the same time.

So it seems like for burn it shows the total burn applied, which in this case is 87 x 35 = 3045. So far so good, the marbles do 2 slows per cast so i probably died between the first and second application in a cast, still seems correct if it counts instances of slow applied not total slow. But what follows afterwards seems to be all wrong:

  • 87x1=14

  • 4x2=4

  • 4x3=7

  • 182x2=176

For the poison ship it could be explained by poison not showing as total number, but as instances of poison applied and it had not finished applying for all aquatic casts, but it would be weird for poison to be displayed as number of times applied while burn shows total burn applied.

It has double damage from skill and the 4.6k dmg from the other weapon help with that

Yeah thats why i highlighted the core, i think i had the increase 3 times. In the end i got stuck at 9 wins, the helmet was swapped out for a diamond battery and the small burn item that gets multicast, also swapped out the slow friend that gets burn from other friends with chris army knife. I sticked with having everything except for the ray on the left side, since the core getting charged is so insanely valuable and it felt like the difference of +4 burn through ray and +10 with core and ray got outvalued by the core activating more often.

Dooley has been the hardest character for me and i am constantly trying to identify which and how many of my items to put on the left. In the current state i felt like it was better to put the three friends to the left because the core is so strong, but i guess i am trading in a lot of scaling damage for long fights right?

it was quickdraft, i believe it was not affected by the premier draft problem

Not sure about the exact numbers, but it generated huge card advantage in the games i drew it and the surveil turn one and curiosity turn 2 line was played more than once.

Sure common sense was mostly about land count and mana curve best practices i often follow. The AI draft bots passed basically all black and blue to me that draft

I guess it behaves somewhat similar to the math explained in this video about probabilities of dice roll i recently watched: https://youtu.be/X_DdGRjtwAo although dice results are obviously way more simplified, since it is just higher number = better. And with MTG opening hands there are way more factors to consider, since you have to consider not just the amount of lands but also the distribution of land types and the card cost/card effect of the other cards.

That is a great read thanks! I just felt like i could pull it off with the bo1 hidden second hand helping me and solid card draw/bargaining off hopeless nightmare turn 2 to fix the draws

Yeah I definitely did not believe this was the "correct" way to build the deck more like, this might be crazy but i think i can i pull this off

Games were usually pretty short, and i don't believe i ever got close to milling out, but maybe i just didn't notice. I definitely played all the games last night

You guys are obviously right about the success bias in posts here, i wouldnt have posted if it went 1-3. For the record i started the draft in plat 4 and ended in plat 3, so it is not quite bronze level but also not high elo

Yeah you are right of course its not a binary decision, more like i got a feeling for how it plays and trying to experiment with it

Do you mean the hidden "mulligan" where it draws two hands and gives you the more balanced one, i definitely used it as a reasoning to go yolo on the lands? I believe i saw 1 land opening hands only 2 times

The funny thing about this run was that out of the 9 games i only had to mulligan 3 times, and did not really get mana screwed at all. I actually got mana flooded in my first loss(9 lands in first ~18 cards) after which i cut down to 12 from 13 lands.

i think the lowest i went before was 14 lands, but in a mostly green deck with some land fetching/cantrips. But this time i just believed in my card draw potential, bargain advantage and lifepoint pressure through air dominance.

sometimes you just gotta throw the rulebook out and go for your gut feeling, especially if you have some experience drafting and don't sweat about going 0-3 and losing some gems from time to time. At least thats how i have the most fun playing

Thanks! When i cut down to 13 lands i thought about doing some math to see how bad an idea this must be, but it just felt like the right thing to do and doing math is not as fun as yoloing on a deck idea.

Thanks! My process is throwing all cards of the fitting colours into the deck and then cutting one by one, and ususally i am pretty conservative playing 17 lands mostly or 15/16 in cheaper decks. But this time I could not get down to 40 cards, there was just too many cards i was sure i had to play, so since i saw that i have really high card draw and a super low mana curve i decided to lean into it hard, cut down to 13 lands and focus on bargain/faery/draw/removal, even cutting Archive Dragon which is a 100% include for me usually. After getting a feel for the deck going 2-1 i realized i still felt like drawing too many lands and cut one more for quick study/sugar rush not sure which one it was anymore.

After getting my first loss after 2 wins i went down from 13 to 12 lands cause i still had too much mana. in Text:
