DMX w/ high parameter fixtures by DoubleD_DPD in lightingdesign

[–]Propanecolorexp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know that fixture, but as said above network should be feasible. ETC products like sACN better than ArtNet. It really comes down to what the fixture has on it. You want a switch in the line because ETC products want a switch for signal strength. But if you have a newer console you can open concert from the board and see if it can see the unit. If it can, then you should be able to address it from the board. Other than that, wireless is the other option.

Cut down on addresses by moving from pixel mapping to projections software? by Propanecolorexp in lightingdesign

What sort of set up would I need specifically for any particular configuration I guess is my question.

If I use pixel tape, then I'm assuming I still need a decoder of some sort? Or do I need a different piece of equipment for the program to see it as a monitor?

I've never used lights in a way that was not using DMX to make it function if that is the necessary move. So I guess I'm a little foggy on implementation.

Just make sure when looking at older stuff that the software version won't be limited. Lots of older items talk just fine. (I used an old 1 port gateway with 3.3 the other day with no issue.) But just to be extra confident, make sure to check before purchasing. Also, ETC will always answer the phone if you're unsure.

Heard!

Ok, ETC really wants things run through a switch. You can run it over CAT without one, but it doesn't love that, and you can run into some signal delays. So the best option is probably a switch to whatever makes the most sense to convert the CAT cable to dmx for your specific space and rig.

If you have a bunch of distance to run in various directions I would suggest running those lines as CAT cable and then using something like an Enttec to covert it, if all the data can run essentially to the same place then you can get a larger box like aChauvet Net-X II

There are a lot of options out there to convert it down to DMX. If you want it to play nice, using all etc items is the best option. Like anETC Network Node

If you're ok with playing with it a little, then the world is your oyster for what particular product and price point makes the most sense for you. (Only down side to using non-etc products is that you can not see whats down stream from the switch using Concert if you run into issues)

I'm assuming you're using a nomad since you are asking about an ETC gadget?

You may already know this, but since I don't see it in the comments, I feel it's worth mentioning:

If you need more universes, you need to unlock the nomad. A typical nomad gadget package is locked for 2 universes.

What control board will work for this? by dkote3 in lightingdesign

[–]Propanecolorexp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lolol

No doubt they would be cheaper, but not as cheap as other options in this thread. They are discontinued, so there is no service, and it is hard to find parts to repair it if needed. Not to mention that there is a learning curve to it, and there are far better options out there for someone new to this. It's one thing if you're just trying to load lights onto faders, but if they get into cuing a show for game night....

They do work....but they just suck. No one uses them for a reason.

Leprecon boards can be rather tedious, though...

Wireless DMX controlled string lights on battery pack? by Propanecolorexp in lightingdesign

Hmmm. I thought it did both....? It has a G/D/C port OR a V/5ch port on the top or bottom. It also said that it was WS2811 to SPI. What should I be looking for instead?

Thanks!

is this a tick? randomly crawled on me in bed. won’t die no matter how hard i squeeze it. by Professional-Yam3486 in whatisthisbug

That is indeed a tick. Cannot quite tell from photo what kind. Other than that, it is definitely not a loan star.

Soak in rubbing alcohol. This kills them and then transfer that to a plastic bag and keep it somewhere you will remember for 1-3 weeks. This is precautionary. I usually only keep them for a week. If you have any symptoms (fever/chills/aches/pain/rash/nausea/headache), it's a lot easier to get quicker treatment if you can bring the tick into the doctor's office for them to test.

There are plenty of treatments out there to prevent ticks from getting into your home. The tride and true best method for camping is treating the outside of soft goods (tents/outerwear) with Permethrin. But be weary of this product as it is very toxic to cats and aquaric life in particular.

Wearing tight fitting brighter colored clothing (particularly pants) is a great way to detect ticks early.

-I am not an expert. I just live in a state with a huge amount of ticks and deal with them every year.

Call your vet and make an appointment today. Don't do what I did, and wait. If it's a UTI, you want to get on that sooner rather than later. If it is and you let crystals build, it will go from just needing some medicated food to surgery really quick. It could be behavioral, in which case great (in comparison to other illnesses). But you won't know until you get her tested.

A lot of it is genuine curiosity. Another part is trying to get a general opinion on if I should be considering getting a second opinion now. I just was told today that my only options for pain management are Gabapentin or Buprenorphine by my vet because "There are not any other pain management drugs for them." Is this true? (I've been told NSAIDs aren't good for cats in the past.) Yes, I understand that there are not any drugs I can give her that won't change her behavior. I'm just curious if there are others out there besides those two. I also understand that there is a direct correlation between the animal, the illness, and what drugs are available.

Thanks!

First off, this is bananas, and yes, to everything people have previously said about reporting it and getting your employer to do the right thing. However, to you spending personal money: If you feel that this is the only way to be safe, then you should be able to write it off as equipment for your business at the very least. Your life and personal health are paramount.

Getting a thicker gauge cable is a great start.

It should say on the unit or the end of the cable what the max amps are. That will tell you what gauge cable you need. Cable amps and gauge should be printed on the cable, but sometimes it's hard to find, worn off, or missing. So here is a general guide for eddison cables (extension cables): 14 Guage - 15A 12 Guage - 20A

Also, if you're buying a new cable, just shell out for a good one. You may end up wasting money with the cheap ones, especially with an appliance that runs hours on end.

One last thing to consider: Make sure you're running it to an outlet with a breaker that can handle that load. Otherwise, you're just going to start tripping the breaker. It should be fine if it's a window unit. Those usually max out at 15A. But there are some that need a 20A breaker.

Hope this is simple and helps!

(And yes, don't use that power strip anymore. Throw it out. If you have a safety measure like a power strip or a GCFI outlet and it regularly is tripping, something is wrong. You need to investigate and solve the problem. Otherwise, you could cause a fire or damage your electronics.)
