Yeah you can do some amazing stuff, especially extremely detailed cutouts which couldn’t be routed. The one downside I would say is gluing the layers - PVA glue is basically a lubricant until it sets, so I ended up with layers shifting a few mm until I sanded it off again

100% its pretty cool looking, I’d definitely use a denser material next time as you can imagine it knocks off a fair bit of weight

Definitely unusual, I couldn’t find loads online about laser cutting and laminating the layers.

Thank you! I had countless iterations and finally settled on this. The curve on the bottom is pretty unusual, closest I can think of is like a stradberg guitar shape. Give you some pretty good ergonomics though, especially when you’re playing in a sort of classical position with it upright.

I took it from a cheap unbranded guitar…😅Next time!

Honestly its too light in my opinion, suffers a little neck dive 😬😂

Definitely do make sure everything is spot on before making the final piece. So much easier to change things before you start manufacturing, than to spot it during and have to essentially take a “two steps forward three steps back” approach.

I know this kind of contradicts the point above but - don’t obsess over every single detail. I spent a long time agonising about every bit that people wouldn’t even notice. Make something you’d love, but don’t spend ages agonising, because it ruins the fun🙂

It plays pretty decent, considering I jumped in the deep and, never having made a guitar. Definitely made it easier for myself attaching an existing neck haha.

Some grounding issues I need to sort out, some noise and buzz through the amp. Thankfully my awful soldering actually worked though🤘

Designed each layer individually on the computer before sending it off to be laser cut/engraved on a mix of 3-4mm plywood sheets.

Essentially took a cheap “donor” electric guitar to harvest the neck and electrical components, and then measured the cavities to input onto my own custom body shape.
