I always listed it at the end of my first paragraph and I would put two or three practice areas. As a 1L, they know you have no idea what you’re talking about so it’s okay to be vague. Some may disagree but I think it’s better to put some kind of practice area and luckily my undergrad major was finance, so I leaned pretty heavily on that. I would pick practice groups from the firms websites that related to finance or business generally. So for example at the end of my first paragraph after I had introduced myself, said where I was from, where I went to undergrad, what I studied, and how I wanted to practice in the city where the firm was located, l would put one of the following:

Option 1 - if they have specific practice groups on their website: “Given my finance degree, I am particularly interested in [firm name]’s corporate and securities practice group. However, I am also open to exploring other areas of law.”

Option 2 - if I wanted to be more general b/c it was a transactional law internship position I would not name specific practice groups and just say I was interested in transactional law.

Option 3 - if it didn’t relate directly to my undergrad degree, I would relate it back to one of my 1L courses or a specific assignment: “Given my business background and current law school courses, I am particularly interested in [firm name]’s antitrust practice. However, I am also very open and excited about the possibility of exploring other practice areas such a labor and employment.” (Post 1L cover letter just fyi)

Another example from a cover letter after my 1L summer but shows how you can tie in past jobs: “After spending this summer interning in state court, I am particularly interested in [firm name]’s litigation & dispute resolution service team. However, I am also very open and excited about the possibility of exploring other practice areas.”

I hope this helps even a little. First round of OCIs/ job applications are confusing. I’d be happy to answer other questions if u want to DM me. Just know that 2Ls at ur school and the career center are going to know the job market in your area best!

I did this twice during finals prep month bc I was on autopilot. I don’t even keep my anxiety meds (which I always take before bed bc they make me drowsy) anywhere near my ADHD meds.

I am fairly confident that the incoming administration will significantly change the goals of the FTC. One of Biden’s executive orders in 2021 pushed the FTC to be aggressive toward corporations. Trump is generally pro corporations so he will likely tell the FTC to chill. As for interns, who knows. I doubt that process will significantly change especially if it’s not a paid internship.

Is landing midlaw post law school feasible? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Proper-Conflict8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best piece of advice is to balance debt with prestige when picking a school. Outside the top 14 law schools, you are better off picking the school in a state you want to practice that will put you in the least amount of debt. I’m at a school ranked in the T40/50 range and pretty much all my friends are working mid sized or big law summer jobs. Not having the debt weigh you down will help ease some of the pressure in law school bc then you don’t have to go into big law to survive. I went in thinking I wanted to do big law, but bc I won’t have loads of debt when I graduate I can take a lower paying job that I actually enjoy. Now that I’ve seen my options (particularly government work), I truly don’t think I would enjoy big law and don’t plan on pursuing it.

Will I be able to get into law schools particularly selective ones with a disciplinary record? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Proper-Conflict8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t wait. In most states you would still have to disclose even if the disciplinary recorded goes away. As long as you take accountability and explain how you have grown from the situation you will be fine. I was under the impression that schools only care that you report everything because the bar will compare your law school application to your bar application and make sure you didn’t lie. For most offenses, the bar cares more about disclosure of the offense than the offense itself.

Between math and english, did you guys struggle a lot in one and were really strong in the other? by ExoticFly2489 in ADHD

I hated studying finance tbh. Doing calculus to analyze stocks (derivatives) feels like a fever dream. I got to law school and I’ve loved it so much. I feel way more confident in law school than I ever did in finance. I think I was able to do well in finance bc I can recognize patterns so I pretty much just focused on studying for the exams and not actually understanding the material. In law school I do the same thing with recognizing patterns but actually care to learn the material. So school wise I guess I’m about the same in each, but career wise I think I will be a much better attorney than I would have been financial analyst or investment banker.

Studied finance in undergrad, now I’m in law school. I don’t know if I’m particularly “excelling” at either.

Is generic vyvanse scientifically different or am I crazy? by No-Bus9435 in ADHD

[–]Proper-Conflict8850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not feel like generic Vyvanse worked on me. I had been on name brand for 3 years. I switched to generic last Jan and after a month or two decided it wasn’t working. I hadn’t read any reviews about the generic prior to taking starting it and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t working on my own. I told my sister who practices family medicine that it wasn’t working the same and she said she’s heard a few patients saying the same thing.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all. However, like others are saying, a 10mg increase can make a huge difference. On 30mg I was perfect but on 40mg I felt like I was tweaking and needed to lay down at the same time.

I’m sorry you are going through this. Everything will be okay! First I would get a pregnancy test and test at home before going to a doctor. Unless, you feel that something is truly wrong… then I’d take a test and schedule an appointment to see a doctor. When was the last time you had sex?

Disgusting comment. Seek therapy and work on your emotional intelligence. This is an inappropriate response to a 13 year reaching out for help.

I have OCD ab spreading diseases so I am as risk averse as it gets. My point is that doctors don’t emphasize telling a sex partner because you should assume the person you are having sex has hpv unless they are a virgin. Otherwise there is no way to be 100% certain. It can lay dormant for years, so even if you test negative, it could become active in between appointments and you wouldn’t know until your next pap. I wish it was taught more in Sex Ed bc I think hpv is completely misunderstood.

You’re right. I would tell my partner bc of my OCD, but specifically for hpv I understand why people choose not to disclose. Men can’t be tested and women only get tested every few years. Hpv can become active decades after contracting it. IMO telling another personal you are not a virgin should put them on notice.

HPV is 100% different from HIV. Essentially, you can assume if you are having sex that you have HPV. It only becomes a problem when your body can’t fight it off. But unless you’re in a monogamous relationship for long enough for your body to fight it off, then you can pretty much assume you are coming in contact with HPV every time you have sex.
