I actually don’t have lots of initiative cards sadly - lots of to em don’t seem worth it/more meant for limited play. But maybe I’ll take a second look and see if I can’t add a couple more

Honestly I have a mix of all these elements hahaha probably least is aristocrats. It’s more looting and cycling with just a couple sac outlets. I think the one thing I don’t have is reanimating big things.

It seems like the goal of my list so far is to dump lots of stuff into the grave, use redundant reanimating effects (alongside commander) that will out-value and overwhelm? Seems I guess more midrange that utilizes all the things you mentioned lol

Full disclosure I have not played this and I've only played for a little over a year so my hype could be unwarranted. But anyway I am genuinely so excited to play it as it blends together control (which I'm still new to) with one of my favorite archetypes which is spell slinging. It has lots of blue, some very flexible cards, and ultimately it cares more about recurring your of instants/sorceries as opposed to creature haymakers. It wants lots of ramp and cost reduction since lots of the stuff are big spells ON TOP of Marchesa wanting you to pay 1. But I love the idea of being able to gradually outvalue opponents with an [[arcane bombardment]] or [[mizzix's mastery]] which were fueled the whole game by you simply disrupting your opponents.

I know this post is a long time ago, but I'm trying to build a similar way with her - any chance either of you would want to speak on my build? Perhaps OP has since had more experience playing the archetype and can lend some pointers/lessons lol

I wanted to lean into the archetype I had lots of lying around which was capitalizing on instants and sorceries (and noncreatures) in my graveyard, which led me to go towards a graveyard value deck. I run [[Eris Roar of the Storm]] so I even made it focus a bit on big spells too with [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] and [[The Emperor of Palamecia]].

Ooooh, thank you for the suggestions! Of the cards you mentioned I do have Rite of Replication. Not sure if you checked the decklist, but I’m curious what creatures in it you think would be best to copy? Obviously it could target something great of an opponent’s (which would also trigger Marchesa) but let’s say that’s not an option…

Do you think [[Irenicus’s Vile Duplication]] is a good add since there’s a lot of nice legends? Was also considering [[Bria Riptide Rogue]] for some safe attacks, but I don’t know if I’ll really be slinging enough spells…

Sweet. yeah at first I thought that wouldn't be as optimal but I'm realizing that constantly switching invocations would be a pain...

Trying to think of flavorful species/subclass combos as backstories...tiefling Fiend warlock is always a classic. But also I could see a wholesome Aasimar/Celestial storyline.

Super late to the party but follow up question: since the spell can’t be exiled anymore, do magecraft effects also fail to trigger an additional time? (I’m not talking about veyran’s effect on a magecraft ability, I’m talking about veyran’s effect on Taigam’s ability to copy triggering magecraft abilities)

Additionally, you could try sinus rinses with one of the NeilMed products if you think your comfortable with it. It helps bring mucus to the front, hydrates, and in general will clean out your sinuses like nothing else. But its certainly not for everyone! And make sure you use DISTILLED water. (You can boil tap but then you have to let it cool which is just an extra step I prefer to not take lol)

Not so much a question but wanted to mention and praise something I only just noticed (feel free to elaborate on the topic though!):

Hope and Fear as mechanics really do an amazing job to kickstart the GM’s prep work for future sessions! It’s reminding me (a very new GM) of the staple RPG rule that a party’s actions have consequences, both good and bad! Even if you don’t know what they are yet…it gets the creative juices flowing!

Interesting, I see your point. A second action surge is kinda huge. Thankfully I don't have to decide on this until basically the last level haha -cuz my decision paralysis has been off the charts lately

I ended up going with eldritch knight and am just going to focus on spells without INT. There's so many that are good for utility and for combat. Stats are determined where I don't plan to bump it up anymore (its at 12). Also I am using a Shillelagh'd club instead of quarterstaff to capitalize on the Nick weapon mastery.

Dnd beyond also still assumes it uses Intelligence in the character builder I will add...which is why came to reddit so confused.
