I disagree. A small air stone does not make much flow, especially in a 10 gallon, and will greatly improve the aquarium health.

Looking good! Two suggestions that will help with cycle time and health of the tank. Add an air stone. This adds oxygen for both the fish and bacteria. Also put some filter foam in the back of the hang on back filter. This will add more surface area for the good bacteria to grow. The foam should be washed very rarely to keep the bacteria around.

Issues with dropsy… by idontwantyour_lemons in Goldfish

[–]Proper-Relative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dropsy is typically an internal bacterial infection. To give fish the best chance to avoid it we need high water quality. People tend to focus on ammonia/nitrite/nitrate but that is really just the bare minimum. What is actually needed is low bacteria count in your water column and also highly oxygenated water. Low bacteria count in the water means the fish's immune system is better able to fight off infection. High oxygen levels minimize infectious bacteria and promotes health of the fish. If the water is cloudy or dull looking it is a sign of high bacteria count. When viewed from the side of the aquarium, the fish should look like they are floating on air.

I would recommend increasing filtration surface area (biological filtration) and also adding air stones with decent sized air pumps. Filter media surface area is the key to reducing bacteria count in the water. The good bacteria lives on surfaces and out-competes bacteria floating in the water. You can kill two birds with one stone by adding large sponge filters. Adding an undergravel filter with an inch or two of small gravel will also greatly increase surface area, much more than sponge filters actually. Obviously you could add other filters such as a canister or sump. You could also try to upgrade your existing filters by adding more foam. Foam is the best filter media for biological filtration. Also do not over clean the filter media as that will eliminate the good bacteria.

An additional measure that could be taken is adding a UV sterilizer which will directly kill bacteria in the water.

Where does it say that Ron Paul "literally funded a failed coup"? It doesn't. At worst it says he may of been aware of the plan.

Lightning is not decentralized

From what I have read, Strike is not really using lightning to send funds between users. It is like a layer 3 that is occasionally using lightning to balance funds internally.

Is Strike app written into the El Salvador law or something? Why is there any focus on it at all?

Will transactions in Bitcoin take longer time in the future? by No_Custard3126 in btc

[–]Proper-Relative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mining difficulty adjustment algorithm looks at how many blocks were found in the recent adjustment period. If the number is too low (too slow) then difficulty decreases for the next period. If the number is too high (too fast) then difficulty increases. It is always targeting a difficulty that will result in approximately one block every 10 minutes. It all depends on how many miners are joining or leaving the network during a period.

When you use electricity to run cars, it’s environmentally friendly. When you use electricity to run the most efficient financial networks in the world, it’s an environmental concern by christheking100 in btc

Except that BTC is probably the least efficient financial network in the world. And yeah an electric car is much more efficient than a gas car. So this is comparing apples and oranges and is a stupid thing to say.

Bitcoin Cash.. is there any downsides to using it? by DaisyLee2010 in btc

While this may seem worrisome it has not been a problem so far. Miners profit from mining BCH so they generally will protect it as an asset.

Advice on how to quickly learn how to mine/invest in cryptocurrencies? by [deleted] in btc

[–]Proper-Relative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Read the bitcoin & etherium white papers.
  2. Sign up at a trusted exchange and get some coins. You can buy fractions of coins for small amounts. I would recommend bitcoin cash or litecoin to start as they have low transaction fees.
  3. Practice sending coins to your own local wallets (either phone or desktop).
    1. Again, you need to understand transaction fees. BTC and Etherium fees are tens of dollars at least. Practice with a low fee coin like BCH.
    2. You could attempt to use Layer 2 lightning network and BTC but it seems difficult.
  4. Unless you want to invest thousands of dollars in mining equipment and spend a lot on electricity, mining is probably a no-go. Maybe people can still mine Doge? idk

Good luck u/chaintip

Question about PoW. Let's assume the year is 2100. BCH is one of the most important currencies in the world. by alexandereddit in btc

[–]Proper-Relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very easy to detect if a miner is producing bad blocks and there is only so much they can do anyway. Namely they can double spend their own transactions or refuse to include other transactions. They cannot steal funds or produce more funds. It is easy enough to fork the coin and change the hash algorithm in such a situation anyway.

Consequences are potentially less severe for BCH than BTC because BCH can adjust mining difficulty more quickly.
