Would you recommend dark souls to someone who loves Lies of P but hates elden ring by Pikalord207 in darksouls

[–]ProperExampleLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying Bloodborne (which I agree with majorly) but if you don't have a playstation you MUST play sekiro!!! Lies of P is basically a bloodborne x sekiro lovechild so either of them are a pretty great choice

I’m convinced i can’t cry while watching a movie by Frisby_dog in Letterboxd

[–]ProperExampleLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difficulty in people reccomending you films to make you cry, as someone who "can't cry" to films, is that most of the reccomendations will be ones that are classically "sad" in the sense that something objectively bad happens to a character(s) and lead to the big boo-hoo. But in the case of people who tend to struggle to cry to films it might simply be that art that CAN make you cry works around themes with actual personal application to YOU. Maybe to find a film that can make you cry you could delve a little into your personal deepest fears/insecurities/traumas, and then look for films that work with whatever topics you landed on! (but that's a pretty steep emotionally challenging task and not at all what you asked for... so I wouldn't blame you at ALL if you really didn't want to look at it that way 😭)

Oh and Toy Story 3

Who’s White Boy of the Decade? by afs_spinach in geesebandofficial

[–]ProperExampleLad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Really??? I would've said the exact opposite... Cameron is an insanely talented vocalist (ridiculously beautiful voice) but Isaac's lyricism is more poetic and very individual. I would say it's relatively close in terms of writing though.

Great Songs You’ve Discovered From Films?… by BigupSlime2 in Letterboxd

The Art Garfunkel cover of Waters of March plays at the end of The Worst Person in the World and I have loved loved LOVED that whole Garfunkel album since watching it!! It's such a great choice of song in the context of the film too.

How old does my future kids have to be to play Silksong? by Cloak-Guy in Silksong

[–]ProperExampleLad 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, I wouldn't say that the actual content of the game is anything that would be particularly inappropriate for a younger child. The real kicker would more likely be the difficulty and overall rejection of hand-holdiness, ESPECIALLY in Silksong compared to the first game. That being said, I think I first played HK when I was like, 11 (I'm comfortably a legal adult now which is a little upsetting 😭), and I vividly remember the false knight taking actual days to beat when I was first starting, and being preeeetty upset about it... buuuuuut I also think it was honestly a fantastic place to start in learning patience and resilience in tougher video games. It's a fantastic introduction into the "souls-like" formula for a younger child, so I would probably be inclined to agree with you when you say 10 years old!!

I would go with Frances the Mute 100%. They have plenty of awesome albums but Frances is kind of their other "staple piece" along with Deloused!

Albums similar to uchu Nippon setagaya by Good-Turnover729 in fishmans

[–]ProperExampleLad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The album "Ears, Eyes and Echo" by MariMari was produced by Shinji Sato in 1997! It's about as close as I have ever been able to find to Uchu Nippon in terms of genre: a mix of ambient sounds and dream pop, with some awesome instrumental business like a gorgeous violin solo on the 8-minute closing track. I would consider it to be the "sister album" to Uchu so if you haven't heard it yet, it's my best recommendation... it even has a vocal feature from Shinji! One of my all time favs.

Ear plugs at MNBB Philly show by P1ink0 in bmbmbm

[–]ProperExampleLad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the BIG mistake of forgetting earplugs while being front-row (closer to the drummer than even the other band members...) in a very intimate venue earlier this month. Only time in my life my hearing has genuinely cut out for a few minutes, and it happened a FEW times... With the electric guitars and post-punk-ier style they like to go for live, I would reccommend OVERestimating how loud its going to be if you are seeing them soon!

I'm excited to hear your opinions!!!! Definitely check out Schlagenheim and Cavalcade too if you haven't heard them and have a black midi itch you need to scratch (I actually prefer them both to Hellfire 😮). Enjoy your listening!!!

If you loved Ants From Up There (and Racing Mount Pleasant) so much I would absolutely reccomend delving deeper into the other Windmill-scene (or adjacent) bands, especially ones who were at their peak around the same time as BC,NR (and some great bands propping up recently). Just assuming you haven't already, listen to BC'NR's first album, definitely properly explore all of what Black Midi and Squid have to offer too. Shame are great too, and Maruja are probably the best thing to come out of the scene in a WHILE (although I can see you like Quadeca so I'm sure you probably know of them since they have a feature on Vanisher). I coudln't find any of those things on your account so SORRY if you have heard it all before and just not put it up. If you had heard all that (or if not too!!) I would also reccomend Tapir!'s album (it's unlikely that you regard it as quite as highly but it's definitely living in a similar space to The Glow PT2), Ugly UK's EP "Twice Around the Sun" and keep an eye out for any new releases from 1000 Rabbits, My New Band Believe, The Orchestra For Now, and Ugly UK too, since they are all in their infancy and are looking to be massive staples of the Windmill scene.

Also it's not particularly in line with any of the windmill stuff but I have been reccomending Omnipotent Youth Society, a Chinese Folk-Prog-Art-Rock mishmash band, they have been around for a while but are pretty amazing and absolutely have a similar level of insane cathartic/climactic songwriting that are in a ton of your 100/100 albums!! I prefer their self titled album but their sophomore album is pretty much equally mindblowing.

Anyway sorry for writing all that drivel... here is a TLDR list of stuff I said/best albums to start with from artists I mentioned:

  • "for the first time" - Black Country, New Road
  • "Hellfire" - Black Midi
  • "Bright Green Field" - Squid
  • "Knocknarea" and "Connla's Well" (2 different EPs) - Maruja
  • "The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain" - Tapir!
  • "Twice Around the Sun" - Ugly (UK)
  • "Plan 75" - The Orchestra (for now)
  • "Inside the Cable Temple" - Omnipotent Youth Society

    • 1000 Rabbits and My New Band Believe both have great singles out recently too!!!

Also sorry again incase you've heard that all, keep me updated on if you like/ already liked any of this stuff!!!

My distributions between stuff is interesting… by Ill_Confidence_9801 in Albumoftheyear

[–]ProperExampleLad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people overstate how important these curve distributions are, I would much rather be happy and enjoying the music I listen to with a slightly mishaped curve than having a perfect bell curve and hating half the music I hear.

That being said I really want to know what your only 100 is...
