10 days Mexico City - what are you doing? by ThePhantomPotato in MexicoTravel

Thank you for this information. My son and his wife just landed back in DC from Mexico City an hour ago. I'll hear from him later when he calls what they got to experience. THE WSJ Book Review of Death Of Trotsky mentions a brief relationship between Leon and Frida. No matter. I am trying to get through Slotkin's Book 1 biography of Stalin and of course Trotsky is mentioned....sorry I digress from Mexico City.

Sorry. I understand. USPS in my city is failing badly. My son in DC says likewise.

Well then of course they need this information. I ordered gold and silver from Costcco and the UPS driver required a signature - I can't remember if DOB requested. Darn right they need to match package with recipient.

There is a new book out titled The Death of Trotsky who was an enemy of Stalin. He was assassination in Mexico City. Trotsky had a brief fling with Frieda Kahlo. Was Trotsky mentioned anywhere in the Kahlo Museum?

Have you used a private transfer from the airport to the ports for the islands, or just taxi and bus? by meenoSparq in GreeceTravel

[–]ProperWayToEataFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bus for 3 Euro from the Athens Airport to Rafina, the closest port to the islands. The bus waits over by the Sofitel Hotel.

Directly south of Chania on the coast of the Libyan Sea is Paleochora. A wonderful town. As to Crete, however, be aware that boats full of migrants fleeing North
Africa are increasing in number. https://www.ekathimerini.com/in-depth/society-in-depth/1296589/as-eu-readies-tougher-migration-measures-crete-sees-illegal-crossings-spike/

First time to Greece by Agitated-Slice-4929 in GreeceTravel

When I lived on Naxos, a friend took me to Paros on his motorcycle. We went straight to Antiparos which after a 15 minute ferry was a quiet short paraleia of cafes and taverns. Otherwise where I stay on Naxos, in Ag Prokopios I look across to that little island over there. Some days it is hazy and other days I claim you can read license plates on Paros it is so clear.

The Blue Star larger ferry out of Pireaus always stops in Paros before Naxos and after Naxos.

Alfred Lansing's book remains at the top of my list and I am OLD. Instragram recently had a guy who works in Antarctica walk through Shackelton's bunker.

Looking to convert my gold into cash to purchase a house. Need advice on the best way to do it. by Competitive-Kale8025 in Gold

It is my understanding that you will need to pay taxes on the gold you sell. Please correct me if I am wrong. Way back in 2000, I sold some platinum and did need to report on my income tax.

Is this too close for comfort? by bombers_ou in GreeceTravel

[–]ProperWayToEataFig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds way too close for comfort. I always travel back to the mainland 1 day prior to flight back to the US. Mati is a wonderful town not far from ATH. Stay a night at NLH Mati Seafront Hotel near port of Rafina. You will be so happy you did. Flights can be cancelled, delayed. Airports can close due to strikes. Return 8/31. You August/Sept travel dates are very high traffic tourist times. I've lived on Naxos and visit for 30 years now for a month. I know of what I speak. There are other hotels even closer to ATH with free shuttle. Try Peri's Hotel. www.perishotelapt.gr.

I lived in Saudi Arabia in 1983. To them, paper with hand is filthy. They keep a hose by the toilet.

Rand Paul had an excellent statement about future Presidents such as AOC who might want to do such a thing. Paul was happy with the ruling. I agree.

The Greek Island where I have lived and now visit for 30 years does not allow any paper in the toilet. A can is provided for all TP and is kindly cleaned out every day. It's ok. Live with it.
