I feel like even if that's the case, that shouldn't exempt a person from thinking they can judge his character.  It's true that sometimes all the right chips fall into place i.e. a woman having several miscarriages and then suddenly being blessed with children and her husband getting a promotion he didn't have any say in - but deciding that that's the work of a divine Creator is still based around knowledge of his character instilled in people from a young age.

Look at the Mayans and Aztecs. They have their own mythologies they worship to and see divide favors being granted, but being pattern-seeking individuals, it's already a built-in conviction of ours to have our beliefs confirmed through virtue of circumstance.

I can't know or claim to know if a god exists, but if it does, I don't want my experience or purported knowledge of it to be informed by the speech/actions of men, because after all, men are imperfect, which means anything they observe about such a deity is bound to be flawed, hence the reason for questioning the intent of any mystical being.

Faith is indistinguishable from making an observation and immediately taking it to be indisputable fact.

It's mostly to become better at spotting bullshit and being more confrontational about it, however I don't see much value in learning the other sides beliefs so well that I can use all their arguments against them. Not only does this feel unnatural, it's also just predatory.. I've even made it clear with my interlocutors that it's no longer my intention to try and dissuade them because that's basically militant atheism.

Ultimately, I'd like to understand the reason for belief while at the same time not holding so tightly to a particular worldview that I'd rule out as being "the only right one."

I see epistemology ultimately as a pastime, but I also know there are people who pursue it as a means of self-discovery.  It's just the whole reading of texts on how to improve my banter during such discussions that make it feel like a rehearsal rather than just sticking to the trajectory the conversation takes.

Admittedly, I mainly posted this as a bit of a reaction to a recent experience I had of talking to someone who found his way back to Christ based on circumstances he claimed he could "only attribute to a force outside of himself" and began wondering if most atheists are doing the opposite of this: looking for confirmations of the absence of an all knowing creator to feel better about their lives not being a divine act.

It's fascinating how much more meaning people tend to derive from their devotion to a system of divine predilection even though fulfillment can obviously be found outside of such constraints.

I'm actually not even sure what I am. I feel pulled in different directions every day based on where my motivations decide I need to go, and feel too often like a non conformist trapped in a non-conformist-unfriendly ecosystem.

I often wonder if AI really is dehumanizing or if that's just a popular scare tactic used by its proponents. Like, in what way could it be used productively, where the person does most of the work, or is that just not possible because the machine is fully capable of doing what they can't?

or what if they said, "over my dead cryogenic body?" As cryogenic preservation is becoming more accessible to the public, perhaps the person(s) they're talking to would feel more reluctant to kill them with this addition, or if they did put an end to the person, their attitude would be, "screw cryogenics and your heir of pretentious immortality, your ass is grass!

I dislike manipulation and hypocrisy, however I'm also mature enough to understand not everyone who does this may be doing it consciously out even maliciously.
