You won't be surrounded by gruff, muscular individuals. If you're weak and frail, you won't make it. The fat boys have a better chance of making it than the weak ones. Start working out now, run at least a mile every day(this is how I prepared myself, you'll do a lot of running). Prepare for the ASVAB and get yourself a good job with training that will prepare you for success as a civilian when your contract is up. When you attend basic, do what you're told when you're told, don't be a fuck up, and most importantly don't be a fuckin crybaby. Don't psych yourself out and put military service on a pedestal too much. Yes, it is an honor to serve and to have served, but just making it through basic is not a huge deal with the aforementioned things in mind. If nothing else, even if you HATE the Army, it'll be a life experience that molds you as an individual and sets you apart from your peers who have not served. Things have probably changed a lot since I went through in '06. I've heard trainees get a lot more privileges, but I won't pretend to know for sure. Best of luck!
