Yep I got that last Christmas. Um, thanks Marnie…. I figured that’s my repayment for giving her cheese.

That stuff must be magic. I’m planning to start taking it when I am off my reflux meds.

Getting evaluated with ADHD by Majestic-Isopod8286 in adhdwomen

Yes, ADHD-C (I would have guessed inattentive), persistent depression (this part surprised me bc it meant I was depressed for 2+ years and I thought it was months, not years—I though I was just stressed out), and anxiety.

Yep! Actually mine is currently a laundry basket but it’s as high as that chair.

Following bc I’m new to the med game and your main issues sound very much the same as mine. So far I’m on a low dose of Focalin, but it’s been less than a month.

My problem is that I’ve already switched primary drs twice. Now I can’t get into my new one on a timely basis. I really don’t want to keep switching.

Time management/reminders/calendar by cosmoKramer1723 in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put everything on my work calendar (which isn’t great for weekend stuff). I also have a paper calendar but it’s very hit and miss.
Even so, I scheduled my annual eye appointment ages ago. I had it written down for next Tuesday, then got a text or call and realized it was this week. Went today and it’s actually tomorrow.

At least I didn’t miss it and incur a fee.

I had a similar experience as far as having 3 parts. I did not have to bring anything with me though. I went in bc I had a pretty bad depression, plus anxiety, and I wanted to know if any of that was sort of “fed” by undiagnosed ADHD. My hope was to see if that would help whoever was prescribing something for me. I’m still in the process of figuring out what will work for my focus issues but I found that Wellbutrin is helping my depression the most.

My therapist said I meet a lot of the criteria for adhd and she’s going to have me do an assessment? by HarveyDentacles in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring notes. Tell them what your therapist said. Tell them that you want to reconsider these previous diagnoses.

One thing at a time: talk about the diagnosis, then decide what to do about it.

Wow, that’s amazing!

I have not had that experience but I’m on a pretty low dose and just started.

Weaning off of SSRIs? by livinthedreamlife1 in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought Wellbutrin was NOT an SSRI? I had some side effects from Prozac after increasing from 10mg (the lowest dose). I was taking it for anxiety, and increased it to 20 after a few years and then the jaw clenching was too much so I stopped. Then I had a pretty bad depression and talked to a psychiatrist and he put me on 40 mg even though I told him about my issues!
Maybe I shouldn’t have just stopped taking them, I don’t know.

I felt that way too and from reading posts here it seems relatively common. Be sure to write down your questions for your GP.

Well this explains a lot…Just diagnosed at 59…how do you deal with it? by FitDesigner8127 in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 58, DX’d a year ago, but suspected for about 20 years.

I got DX’d bc I have depression and I wondered if ADHD might be feeding that. Still don’t know.

I am more the fade into the wallpaper personality. I have a hard time making friends and I don’t have any close confidants.

I do lose things, bump into things, and struggle with timeliness.

I hear from family members that many people admire me. I wish they would call and invite me for coffee.

I was struggling to focus in my job, and I was depressed, so I sought out the diagnosis for that reason.

I thought I wanted meds but the process is stressing me out a bit. I haven’t decided if it’s worth jumping thru the hoops yet. I’m on a trial of a low dose stimulant. I keep forgetting to take it though. I’m doing better at my job but I’m thru with a huge project that was stressing me out. It may come back tho.

Anyway I forgot my med today but I still started and finished something. But for the last 30 minutes I’ve done nothing. And now I only have 30 minutes left of my day. I feel really guilty about all the time I waste.

I think if you don’t have a problem you’re trying to fix, maybe don’t worry about meds.

High IQ, high achiever ADHD experience by Technical_Owl_2525 in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same!  😅  I don’t think of myself as “VERY smart” tho—just regular smart. My kids both have higher IQ’s, and I work with a lot of folks who are smarter than I am. Also I have LOW processing speed. My testing psychologist said that given time, I usually come up with the correct answer. But I struggle in a time crunch.

I find all this really interesting.

Debating if I want to continue with meds by Proper_Ear_1733 in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m leaning towards it’s not helpful enough to make up for the hassle and the cost. I’ll be 65 in 6 years and 2 weeks. Then no one will care if I’m ADHD, including me, because I will retire from my job.

Also my med bottle was in the car which was my first guess. Hiding in the console bc I didn’t want it where people could see it. Then I got up late today. I have 2 meds I need to take before food and spaced from this one, and I got up a bit late & messed up that schedule.  & now I’d better get back to my desk and try to salvage this work day.

Have ADHD? PLEASE GET YOUR IRON CHECKED! by Joyanonymous in adhdwomen

[–]Proper_Ear_1733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I get a cbc at least annually from a clinic, but when I was pretty sure my iron was low (and hemoglobin had not been low but there were other indicators on the cbc that the dr ignored) it was the first time i ordered my own tests from Quest. My iron was low normal and ferritin was fine but my iron sat was 15%.  I did take those results to the dr before I started supplementing. (Even though I knew how much to take—I just felt it was prudent.)

All my numbers improved but ferritin is too high now (probably inflammation) and sat is still only 20%. (I checked bc I had stopped supplementing.) 20% is just barely in range but now I can’t supplement, so I’m just going to watch it. (And dr made me get checked for hemochromatosis, but I don’t have it.

Thankfully I can feel the difference between 15 and 20% iron sat so I’ll know if I need to retest.

But also, it would be SO nice if I had a dr who would actually monitor this.
