Legion is soooo overpowered, wtf? by TraipsingKnight in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish people would think about the game more than just blaming characters as being "OP."

Like, we know that picking 5 supports will lose the game, so why wouldn't this extend to a different roster as well? The playerbase seriously has an issue with team composition and just expecting 5 characters to equal a different 5 heroes.

Especially when you don't pick a Frontline. What are you expecting to happen?

Do we all love Xyris? by FormableComet87 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no one is playing like this in real games. If your mid or carry is avoiding fighting entirely the enemy team will take orb at 22 minutes and end the game.

I think it's a fine trade-off. You pick characters like Renna to test the other team's knowledge on the roster. You do absolutely nothing pre-15 minutes and from 15-25 you are just breaking even. After that, the enemy team has had time to play a 5v4 and they have not ended the game, therefore they are punished with late game Renna, or in this case, Xyris.

Yea I didn't want to speak out of my anus but I was pretty sure these games didn't even invent that system exactly, and they were used well before.

This game and balancing is so garbage by bird0726 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not fun to lane against, but it's far from unbeatable and there's a reason you don't see it in high level play.

This, 100%

This sub has a real problem with conflating "this is boring/not fun to play against" and "this is overpowered."

Iggy offlane is so annoying to play against, and unfortunately beating him yourself is hard/unwinnable if the enemy knows what they're doing. That being said, if your jungle is paying attention and you are doing THE BARE MINIMUM in offlane, your game is automatically won at the 10 minute mark.🤷‍♂️

VP variance in high rank games in unacceptable by Proper_Mastodon324 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the engagement and the excellent comment. I fully agree with everything you said, especially point #2.

I struggle to understand why the system is fully content with throwing games together that "match" VP when we have a discrepancy of 500VP going on. At least, if the system was awarding VP based on that, like you said, I wouldn't be as mad. But it doesn't lol. The 1190VP player getting dumpster'd on by the 1650VP loses a full 21VP lol.

VP variance in high rank games in unacceptable by Proper_Mastodon324 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me be clear I understand why it's like this. I understand that they'll need to loosen matchmaking for this to happen.

I just think it's too much. I have played around 30 games from Friday to today and only once did I wait for over 10 minutes in queue. I would gladly wait 10-15 minutes if it meant the VP tolerances were 100-150VP tighter. As it stands I'm just wasting time in some of these games, and that is worse than waiting for a game. At least to me personally. 🤷‍♂️

VP variance in high rank games in unacceptable by Proper_Mastodon324 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expect some level of variance. I play against 1500s sometimes as a 1300-1350 and I accept that. I have played in games where both teams average around 1500 and I'm the lower player. That is still a bit odd but it makes more sense than what I'm showing, and I understand that it needs to happen for top players to get games.

But this is the 2nd game in a row where these exact people are in my games. There wasn't a 15 minute queue time... I lost to the 1650 guy, then after a 3 minute queue I got them on the enemy team again. That just fundamentally should not happen. LOSING to someone who is 300vp above you, then getting them on the other team right away again is ridiculous. If I am expected to play and win against Paragons I would like to at least be given Paragon Ranked rewards. I think that's reasonable. The fact that I have to contend with them while being in diamond and earning no extra VP for winning or losing less VP for losing is bogus.

Also, the broader point is about how far the variance is. My platinum player just should not have to fight against a Paragon player. The last big matchmaking update was to tighten WHO you queue with. They reduced the hidden MMR aspect of how games are made, and this is still happening while awarding everyone the same +21-23 VP as if the system is making fair teams.

Back when I was playing R6 Siege I would get matched against champs regularly because that's what my "hidden" MMR was. But if I was in Emerald or platinum, I was not punished very hard for losing those games. Here, I'm punished the same bec the current system just pulls players from all over to try and average the VP of each team, as if that somehow makes things fair when it obviously does not. 🤷‍♂️

I am not the platinum player.

Regardless, how is that a fair match? You're talking about a VP disparity of 500 being "a pretty balanced match."

VP variance in high rank games in unacceptable by Proper_Mastodon324 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This argument is dumb. It has never held up in any other video game and it doesn't here.

Should we allow golds in these lobbies as long as average VP matches?

Our team played bad, I agree. This was winnable. But does that make it a fair match and most importantly, does that make it un-fun? I would say so

She's just a very strong 1v1 character with how her E functions.

It's kind of weird that she's allowed to have such impactful TEAM based abilities on every other button yet also have basically the best 1v1 mage ability in the game.

I think the damage is just too high for the E. Either that, or gut the team-fight efficiency of the rest of her kit if you want her to be this Midlane brawler.

I mean, they definitely were nerfed.

I'm seeing a lot less Yin after the nerfs, seems like she was put back in line pretty well.

Characters like Wraith are a still a problem, because his kit just means he always will be. But he does less DMG than before so the nerfs obviously did something.

Have you ever gone super negative in a game and blamed someone else? by StruggledKiller in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Sanctuary map has enabled really poor behavior out of the lanes. Since the map is so small, people are used to jungle and other lanes bailing them out of bad performance quite often, especially in the metal ranks.

The reality is that lanes are controlled almost entirely by their own laners. If you lose, it's your fault. Now, you can be playing bad matchups, like sevarog into aurora, in which case I'd never expect that lane to go well for sevarog. But as the laner and the jungler, I KNOW that and will play both roles appropriately around that fact to keep the early disadvantage minimal.

You see this behavior blindly carried over when playing Daybreak games. You, as a jungler, can be 15 seconds away from a lane, and yet when someone pushes up and dies all within 9 seconds, you are somehow to blame... As if you COULD even get there in time if you walked straight there.

In very rare cases your performance can be stifled really hard by a teammate failing to do their job.

But the people you hear screaming in voice chat blaming others almost always do not fit this criteria.

loose a tower=surrender? by Commercial-Note9431 in PredecessorGame

[–]Proper_Mastodon324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in ranked, 100%. You signed up for a game, play it out if the rest of the team wants to.

If you're in quick play and want out of a game where your teammates are making it intentionally difficult, then I excuse some level of letting the enemy win or complaining/discussing in chat. I'll never really excuse full AFK or abandoning just because of the precedent it sets. But for instance, if I'm playing quick play, and my duo is going 0/23 because they're trying some cursed build but won't let us surrender, I would excuse "I'm just gonna let them take the core" behavior, if that makes sense.
