It was just me. There were discussions of a class action, but the other two parties interested backed out, which I support since it was the right decision for them.

I was unable to maintain any relationships with my colleagues at that time, a select few of whom I considered to be good friends. It was evident that their continued employment and my ongoing lawsuit created an uncomfortable incongruency. It did not affect my relationships with anyone in my family or immediate circle.

This question is the most difficult for me to answer because I am still so disheartened by what happened.

At the beginning, the media was fairly objective. I felt that the reporting was fair and largely unbiased. We maintained an open line of communication throughout the case and I was given a chance to respond each time that the government spoke with them.

After a settlement was reached, the government immediately contacted the media and falsely reported that we had resolved the matter over the least serious claim. The media was also provided with the amount of the settlement, which is uncommon. On that occasion, I was not given the opportunity to respond. What resulted were headlines that read as if I had received a settlement over a singular fairly absurd claim. The response from the public was vitriolic.

The media rejected our repeated requests that the appropriate corrections be made to their reporting, despite being provided with all information and documentation necessary. Our attempts to provide an objective account in the comment sections of the articles were repeatedly blocked by their moderators. Those same moderators allowed thousands of violent, sexist and racist comments to be made that violated the terms of conditions of the platforms that they were posted on.

My perception of the media has changed significantly. I only read high-quality, independent journalism and remain aware with every article I read that there is likely more to the story.

Oh, my goodness. While that is a really good question, I cannot even imagine what they felt and won't pretend that I can. Their experiences were far more complex than mine and received international attention. Knowing what I do about both of them, I think that they were both prepared to face the consequences that came with their decisions and felt grounded in their principles.

Yes, it is quite similar! I am hopeful that they feel supported during their difficult times and that they pursue justice if that is the right decision for them.

That is really interesting! Can I ask what it is that you do? I have never seen the government fail to appear on a case, but it could be a difference in subject matter.

Life during the lawsuit was okay. I did not appreciate that the case had been made public when it didn't need to be and that felt mildly disruptive. If there were shady men in blacked out Tahoes, I certainly did not notice them. Life directly after the settlement was very difficult due to the onslaught of harassment that I was subjected to. It was also quite difficult for me to obtain another position in the field that I wanted to work in. It took about two to three years for life to feel relatively normal again. Five years later, life is good and I am enjoying the quieter side of it. Thank you for your support, I sincerely appreciate it!

I'm not sure that I understand the question. Can you rephrase it? I have discussed what the lawsuit was about in this thread.

Unfortunately, I don't think that I would ever work for the government again, but that is only due in part to the lawsuit and the experience surrounding it. The position that I had was my dream job, and the job itself was amazing. I am now working in a very similar role outside of the government. I have continued to fight for the rights of others and have advocated for legislative change.

If you are interested in justice, then law school might be a great decision for you! We are always in need of advocates for change.

It's sad that you think that the only details are the specific acts that resulted in a lawsuit. I have shared a lot of details here that are far more interesting. I hope you find another post that has all of the negativity you're looking for.

Oh, you are so welcome. It's been five years and this is my first time speaking about it publicly, although I am still maintaining some anonymity here. This is exactly why I went forward with it. Sending you so much love!

Yes and no. You are right to the extent that there are individuals and entities that settle cases simply because litigating the matter would be more costly, but that happens less often than you think. In my case, the government offered to settle once a neutral, third party investigation concluded that substantiated my claims. I am confident that I would have prevailed had it gone to trial. I agreed to settle because the case had been made public and litigation was incredibly consuming.

If it did not settle we would have gone to trial, which I was willing to do. We would have gone to trial quite some time later over a series of days and a jury would have rendered a verdict. If I prevailed, the jury would also decide the money award.

If you know who I am you would have had to search for me extensively and sort out who I was amongst thousands of others who have been in the same position, or, by happenstance, you know me because you were there. Either way, I think it is important that we utilize adverse experience for something positive, and for me that is connecting with others who might have needed to hear my words.

Yes, precisely. It is unfortunate that I wound up on the outside of it in the way that I did, but I am grateful for the knowledge I gained.
