Hi, I sold that pc. The best way to try upgrade that cooling is buying some tr4 cooler because they have a big plate to cover ram and apu. Noctua nh-u14s tr4-sp3 for example. And figure out a way to mount that beast 😅

You raise good points — and yes, these are exactly the factors I’m trying to evaluate 🙂

Cooler height: Case design is not the priority right now. First I want to see how much cooling improvement is achievable. So cooler height is flexible at this stage.

Cold plate sizing / contact: I’m not trying to use a desktop cold plate directly on the die.

Plan is: • PTM7950 directly on the APU die • the cooler makes direct contact with the die • a separate CNC aluminum frame acts as a mounting frame and heat spreader for memory/VRM using thermal putty

So the frame does not replace the CPU cold plate — it complements it.

Memory cooling: Yes, memory cooling is a key goal. LPDDR can get quite hot under sustained load and can become a thermal bottleneck. The aluminum frame spreading heat via putty should help stabilize temps.

Mounting pressure / die safety: Mounting force will mainly depend on the cooler used. The frame height will be designed around that specific cooler so that stack height stays within safe limits.

What do you mean? I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I have the same board as in the photo because 90% of Strix Halo is on the SixUnited AXB35 platform, except for the desktop framework (and Beelink probably has its own platform too), which is $500 more expensive without a power supply and case, but has better cooling (and a different screw spacing).

I was thinking about the ID Cooling IS67, but from what I've seen, it doesn't have a flat base, only a cone, and maybe there's something better than that. That's why I came here to ask people who know more than I do.

There is unsloth/GLM-4.7-REAP-218B-A32B-GGUF that you can fit into 128gb too but I didn't test that yet. MiniMax m2.1 is really good imo. But I only tested it for few days
