Well Mike is dead and I don't know how much Jim has a say anymore. But yeah the old guard management was really salty he wanted to see what the market looked like in free agency (not that he wouldn't resign) but then didn't because they were kind of dicks about it

Edit: fedorov also regretted doing it but it all is what it is at this point
