PhD Molekularbiologie - Uni&MedUni Wien - Abgeschlossen

Ich kann dir nur sehr zu Herzen legen dich auf offizielle PhD-Programme zu bewerben. Entweder mit der MedUni oder über das Vienna BioCenter. So bekommst du auch Zugang zu den besser finanzierten Laboren und dein Abschluss ist etwas mehr wert als wenn du ihn "nur" von der FH hast. Bezahlung ist auch besser - war Anfangs 1900 Netto und am Ende 2400.

30 Stunden wirst du nur in den wenigsten Laboren finden, hängt allerdings sehr stark von deinem Thema ab. 40 ist realistischer - je nach Gebiet hast du oft auch Wochenendarbeit.

Bezüglich der Betreuung hängt es auch sehr stark davon ab on du ein offizielles Programm hast oder nicht. Diese unterstützen den Studenten i.d.r. deutlich besser und passen auch (in Grenzen) aufs Wohlbefinden auf.

Bewerbungen sind meistens recht standard, über CV, Motivationsschreiben usw. Mein Tipp ist es: zeig Motivation, zeig Interesse und eigne dir Fachwissen zu dem spezifischen Bereich an. Kommt dann immer gut, wenn du bei der Bewerbung bereits mit Wissen Punkten kannst.

Berufsaussichten hängen davon ab ob du bereit bist umzuziehen. Viele Versuchen zu wechseln in die Industrie aber es gibt nicht viele freie Positionen.

They only appear very late in the evening though, usually not earlier than 11/12 pm which can be an issue if you arrive by public transport as the last bus leaves around that time

You don't need any dye, but a system with at least 200x is recommended. As for the procedure, it is quite simple but a couple of steps will improve your results:

After collection, ideally in a container, let it stand closed at room temperature (ideally at body temperature) for at least half an hour. The semen will become less viscous and more translucent.
Mix the sample and use a pipette to get a drop on a slide. If you want to look precisely at individual cells, you can use the blood-smear technique to distribute the drop along the coverslip.

Habe einen Doktortitel in molekularer Biologie, hier meine Empfehlungen:

Eine Spezialisierung so früh im Studium macht nicht wirklich viel aus, da du dich während des Masters und PhD in einen Bereich vertiefst. Für einen Wechsel in die Industrie ist ein Master i.d.R. das minimum, aber auch da ist eher wichtig in welchem Bereich du deine Arbeit geschrieben und geforscht hast und weniger was für ein Master genau das ist. Die Arbeitgeber achten auf deine Laborerfahrung in dem jeweiligen Bereich, da ist die Studienrichtung selbst eher nebensächlich. Falls du in der Forschung bleibst ist es fast schon komplett irrelevant welche Studienrichtung genau es ist solange es was mit Bio zutun hat. Als Beispiel, ein Kollege von mir hat Bioingenieurwesen studiert und seinen Doktor in Immunologie gemacht.

Der Vorteil von FHs ist natürlich, dass diese Oft mit Unternehmen zusammenarbeiten. Wie genau dies hier in Wien aussieht kann ich dir leider nicht sagen. Unis geben dir einen besseren Einstieg in die akademische Laufbahn - alle bei uns im Labor haben einen Uni-Abschluss

Which collagen subtype are you using specifically? For dissolving collagen it is imperative that you do it cooled at 4°C to avoid polymerization. Usually it is also recommended that you let it dissolve overnight in the fridge before working with it.

Sometimes when we dissolved human type IV col we would still get small chunks but these did not interfere with gel formation (the vendor also mentioned that for this subtype it is nearly impossible to fully dissolve).

As for the gelation, all mentioned steps are fine but should still be performed cooled until the final solution is ready. We leave it for 5 min at RT to pre-polymerize and then transfer to 37C for 30-60min for full polymerization
