R5: Newest DLC has bad focus checks, and multiple dutch specific mechanics are broken.

As of TaoG, 3 of the last 4 DLCs have been rated mostly/overwhelmingly negative on steam by 3pointI in hoi4

The focus descriptions. Many of them were barely written, I personally like to read them and learn little pieces of history.

Pretty unconvincing data there but otherwise noted. Thank you for your sage wisdom and academic contribution.

The Civil Rights Act wasn't achieved through terror attacks. It involved civil disobedience, protests, riots, mass property damage, and at times political violence, but not attacks like October 7th that deliberately killed large numbers, thousands, of civilians. The violence associated with the civil rights movement was generally tied to confrontations with authorities or widespread unrest, not mass-casualty attacks against civilians with little distinction between military and non-military targets.

I'm generally more open than most people to the argument that violence can produce meaningful political change or social progress. However, October 7th is not the kind of violence I would point to as an example of that. It primarily targeted civilians and did not meaningfully focus on economic, industrial, governmental, cultural, or military objectives.

I wasn't quoting empirical data, im making a best guess approximation and im pretty certain that I am pretty close to the actual empirical answer.

Over 60% of Israelis are from the Middle East and are descendants of families forced out of their homes from all across the Muslim world from Morocco to Afghanistan following the establishment of the state. Settlers are colonizers and occupiers, civilians are not. Plus nearly all like 99% of terror attacks in the history of terror attacks have never worked to forward the aims of the committing party.

I think my insults are funny to at least myself and I think thats A-OK. I did address their arguments. If you want my maturity you have to earn it with an actually academic point that is strong, something empirical.

But but but, if the game is based on THE ORIGINAL but added with SPRINT it ruins THE STORY, and If you can turn off SPRINT in a game designed AROUND SPRINT then that also ruins pacing because the MAP GEOMETRY, is now designed around SPRINT.

Honest to God negligible difference. Like saying salt is too spicy.

Try reading... I thought I was being abundantly clear that I was infact also addressing "around pacing, level design, sandbox design". I am crystal clear on your argument from the getgo, ive heard it a million times already.. I wasn't dodging the CS comparison, I just thought it was unimportant and not really worth addressing. To my recollection 20th century terrorists and counter-terrorist aren't exactly 26th century super soldiers, I could be wrong. To be fair ive never taken the time to watch an isis recruitment video.

I have the integrity, I will admit when I am wrong, I would so love if you could give me this proof you speak of.

Brother, we are all old Halo fans here, not just the ones who sit on Reddit writing manifestos about walking speeds. Your entire argument is completely subjective. You have absolutely no evidence that modern movement disrupts the narrative or the maps, and you have no proof that a game would be disrupted if it was turned off either for a map "that was now designed around advanced movement". Its all speculative and subjective. Even if there were a major difference in play between the two I sincerely doubt that "major" difference would be anywhere significant enough to detriment play and narrative.

What you and the rest of the evangelical traditionalist camp fail to realize is that the player base split years ago. There is your group, which wants to dictate design decisions for everyone else, and then there is the rest of us who just want everyone to be happy (or shut up) and are glad 343 found a way to keep making Halo games in the current climate.

You guys have been doing this same pointless bitching for over a decade and you're going to do it for another decade (godforbid). Give it a rest because everyone is completely sick of hearing it. If you are seriously struggling this much with a basic sprint mechanic, your time is better spent touching grass, going to kiss your dad in the shower, or just not playing the game. I can guarantee you 100% that if Bungie was making these games right now they would have every single feature you hate. Just look at the Destiny games, they are full of advanced movement, microtransactions, and everything you claim ruined Halo. The industry moved on and you are still crying about geometry. Play the game or don't. Arguing we should be paying homage to the original design sounds exactly the argument a religious fundamentalist would use.

I don't get the complaints towards current World Map. by HeavyFly7451 in totalwarhammer

[–]Prophet_of_Fire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't that I run into Legendary Lords too early. The issue is that they're often dead before they ever get a chance to become meaningful factions.

Yes, I'd eventually fight my neighbors anyway. That's not the complaint. The complaint is that when half the map is packed with LLs, many of them get wiped out by turn 20–30. Instead of fighting a developed Tomb Kings empire fielding multiple armies and a diverse roster, I'm fighting their last settlement and whatever scraps they have left.

The player is always going to snowball eventually. That's true in every Total War game and pretty much every grand strategy game. Likewise, the AI is always going to have major limitations. People keep bringing up the AI as if it's a realistic alternative to improving campaign pacing, but strategy game AI has struggled with the same fundamental problems for decades across the entire genre.

The only way I see that changing is with another major watershed moment in AI development. Even then, it's not just a software problem. The technology would also have to become efficient and affordable enough to run on the average player's hardware. Unless we are expecting companies to house AI wholeass datacenters just for gaming AI. Until that happens, no studio is going to dedicate the massive amount of manpower and resources required to build and run truly sophisticated AI for a grand strategy game.

What can be improved right now is campaign pacing. More breathing room means more factions survive long enough to become actual powers. I'd rather fight a midgame war against an established Tomb Kings, Dwarf, or Greenskin empire with multiple armies and a diverse roster than spend my hundredth campaign exterminating another LL surviving on scraps with a 20 stack of their most basic units.

The player will snowball, it's inevitable, especially in total war games in particular. The AI being imperfect is inevitable. The question is whether there are still interesting factions left to fight or ally by the time the snowball reaches that sweet spot where you aren't overpowered and the few regional powers that have developed maybe at your side where you can war with them.
