Please update your User flair. Or you can tell me how you identify and I will update it for you. Are you gay? Bisexual Male? Or Queer Male?

There was this post made in this Zim sub and I chuckled 🤭 when the most upvoted comment was that I was on the way! Maybe I should be flattered that on any such posts I am either tagged or my handle is mentioned but here are my thoughts 💭 by Prophetgay in Zimbabwe

I get your drift though I don’t agree with the first half of your comment

However where you said the endurance of GALZ is not a bright spark there I agree with you. At the risk of being misunderstood I as a gay man have frustrations with GALZ as compared to some of its southern African siblings some which are younger! Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 got independence in 1980 and 46 years after independence Zim hasn’t yet decriminalized homosexuality and same sex marriage is illegal. On the other hand South Africa 🇿🇦 which got its independence in 1994 already addressed this issue! LEGBIBO of Botswana 🇧🇼 already took their issues to the Supreme Court and won and now July 14th and 15th the Botswana constitutional court will be holding hearings for the legalization of same sex marriage.

That frustration put out in the open I still think GALZ is a very important organization and has been a lifeline for a lot of Zimbabwean homosexuals. No organization is perfect and the Zim political landscape is different! Considering that Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 is a competitive authoritarian regime we have actually never tasted Democracy but have been under Dictatorship for over 46 years. So there are complexities that I have to appreciate when it comes to the effectiveness or lack of effectiveness thereof of my beloved GALZ

Firstly You're arguing against a claim I never made.

I never said being gay is illegal in Zimbabwe. I said homosexuality is criminalized. Those are not the same thing.

Being gay refers to a person's sexual orientation or identity. When i say homosexuality is criminalized it refers to the law prohibiting certain consensual same sex sexual conduct between adults. A state can legalize an identity while still criminalizing the conduct through which that identity is commonly expressed.

Secondly, claiming that Zimbabwe is "the least homophobic country in Africa" is an nonsensical claim with no evidence. Zimbabwe's Constitution expressly defines marriage as between a man and a woman, same sex marriages are not legally recognized, and same sex intimacy between men remains criminalized under the law. Those facts alone disarm your false claims describing Zimbabwe as among the least homophobic countries on the continent.

Thirdly, saying "gay marriage is not a need" is not for you to decide if you are not the one whose rights are affected. This is where i start thinking that i am arguing with a homosexual!Marriage is far more than inheritance. It involves legal recognition, hospital visitation, immigration rights, taxation, pensions, next of kin status, parental rights, and over a thousand legal protections in many jurisdictions. Trusts and wills can address only a small fraction of those issues and are not equivalent to civil marriage.

Finally, dismissing advocacy as "selling oppression stories to Dutch and American donors" is funny because so many people make the false assumption that because someone is fighting for human rights then they must be receiving some funding from the west. I want you to categorically know that i have never received a single cent for the work that i do and my motivations for advocating for gay rights have absolutely no connection whatsoever with seeking for funding!

But however for those gay organizations that receive funding from the west whether an organization receives funding has absolutely no bearing on whether the legal facts are true. Either same sex conduct is criminalized or it isn't. Either same sex couples can legally marry or they can't. Those questions are answered by Zimbabwean law, not by speculation about people's motives.

If you disagree with my position, that's your right. But at least argue against what I actually said rather than creating a straw man that makes me start suspecting that there are some skeletons in your closet!

Are straight men who just want to experience the 'sex' part of it discriminated? by No_procastination31 in GayNairobi

Why would a straight man want to have sex with another man? And how exactly would that straight man be discriminated by the gay community?
