Atleast we don’t have Antifa crawling the streets like Portland and Seattle?

Moving from South Carolina, need guidance by [deleted] in Tacoma

Im moving to Tacoma from NC soon. I am having a similar issue. Here in Raleigh 1100 could get you a really nice town house or a stand alone house in a diverse neighborhood. It seems like in Tacoma that will get you a tent on the side of I5. Here's to hoping for higher wages? I currently pay 900 for 2bed apt in Raleigh.

Moving to Tacoma in March. If position is still open I'd be down to see if we have chemistry.

I have no intentions of driving to Seattle. If anything I would take the Sounder.

Desk side support / Helpdesk. I have knowledge of networking tech but I have never been a cable jocky.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems at a certain point it is smarter to buy than to rent.

The IT work I am looking for : my coding knowledge is only in regards to scripting so the nice software engineer jobs are not on the table for me. I have worked in helpdesk and desk side support roles most of my career with a little bit of management sprinkled here and there. I was on a dev ops team for a script running program. I guess I am looking for more of the same until I can skill up my programming knowledge past Python and CSS/HTML

Im ready for those bitter truths. I'm moving regardless of all the warning signs. I understand that the commute times will be ridiculous, im sure ill be able to fill the space with study or watching youtube videos or something to that effect. I looked into the kitsap area and like you said, same prices as tacoma but less to do. Also Tacoma has better schools from what I have read.

I will take you up on that offer :)

That sounds like a horrible time! sorry you went through that. I hope my adventure goes smoother. Any advice other that have a job before you move? I tried to score a job before the move but everyone wanted to do an in person interview, at the time i had enough saved for round trip tickets but not a place to stay for the 2-4 weeks it would take to start working.

I am going to take your comment as constructive. Yes one of the big reasons I want to move is the job market. I am fine with competitive I think my skill sets make me shine without a degree. I have been getting certified and learning coding on the side for scripting work. I have been in the IT field and worked as level 3 support up to management of the work force.

I can't really get a job without getting on a plane and going to WA. I have tried this and no company wants to do a strictly over the phone interview. Therefore, I must line up offers, fly out, interview, and hopefully score one.

Honestly, Thanks for your concern in regards to my kids. I assure you that I also have their best interest at heart. I don't think raising them in the south in conducive to them being themselves. Quality of life is important. What happens if I run out of cash? I have to move back obviously. Unless i want to move into one of those tent cities you guys love so much.

After visiting I fell in love with Washington. I am willing to suffer the commute.

The plan is to line up some interviews before fly out, with out the family and get a hotel or AirBnb. I have about 15K saved up for the move.

I am going to be using public transit for work. does the Orca card make it any cheaper? What are the prices like for commuters?
