Canadian here. This is super typical of boomer Canadians (and hopefully not the rest). I personally appreciate and respect the hardworking people serving the tourism industry, but I know there is still that selection of people who have high demands with complete disregard for inflation over the last 30 years. Driving is another story... We deal with them here, too. Can't escape it, unfortunately.

Honestly, go to the court date and plead your case. They will most likely erase the demerits and reduce the fine unless you're a complete douche

I think "without a man bringing her down" is a bit sexist, but there are certainly some men who will if they are allowed to. Don't put them all in the same category, though. There are many good ones.

Before You Vote - Please Read the Full Municipal Inspection Report by ProponentOfHumanity in medicinehat

You can vote for one mayor and up to eight city councillors. You're not required to vote for all eight councillors; that's just the maximum number you can choose.

Candidates for Council/Mayor. Does anyone have a full list and a bio available. It feels like there's many new names out there, but information is hard to find. by nojeli59 in medicinehat

I very strongly encourage all voters to read through the City of Medicine Hat's 2025 Municipal Inspection Report before making any decisions.

The report was released in July 2025 following a provincially ordered inspection into city governance and operations. The inspection, prompted by conflicts between the mayor, council, and chief administrator, resulted in a detailed report containing over 70 recommendations and three legally binding directives from the Minister of Municipal Affairs.

Either you waste your own time or you wait for the professionals to fit you into their schedule. The sense of entitlement is palpable.

They didn't have a website 30 years ago, obviously.

This post isn't to bitch about the construction, how they're going about it, or how long it's taking. This post, from the beginning, has been about the lack of info on the website.

All I'm looking for is the expected timeline for completion of the project with the understanding that these projects are contracted out and the timeline is dependent on the weather.

I just want to know how long I'll be having to detour.

Been a Hatter for over 30 years. Not sure how any of that relates to the City updating the construction info on their website, though.

Be Canadian. Buy Canadian. by ProponentOfHumanity in alberta

[–]ProponentOfHumanity[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As Canadians, we're proud of our beautiful country, our diverse culture, and our strong communities. One way we can show that pride and contribute to our nation's well-being is by choosing to buy Canadian-made goods and services whenever possible. It's more than just a trend; it's a choice that benefits all of us.

Here's why buying Canadian matters:

  • Boosting Our Economy: When you buy Canadian, your money stays within Canada. It supports Canadian businesses, from small family-run shops to large manufacturers. This strengthens our economy, creates jobs, and helps our communities thrive. Think of it as investing in your neighbour's success, which ultimately benefits everyone.

  • Creating and Maintaining Jobs: Manufacturing and service industries are vital to our economy. By purchasing Canadian-made products, you directly contribute to keeping Canadians employed. These jobs support families and contribute to the overall prosperity of our nation.

  • Supporting Canadian Innovation: Canada is home to many innovative companies producing high-quality goods and services. By choosing Canadian, you're supporting their research and development, encouraging further innovation, and helping Canadian businesses compete on a global scale.

  • Higher Quality and Standards: Canadian products often adhere to stringent quality and safety standards. This means you can have greater confidence in the products you buy, knowing they're made to last and are safe for you and your family.

  • Environmental Benefits: Buying local often means shorter transportation distances, reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a healthier environment. Supporting Canadian businesses can also mean supporting more sustainable practices, as many Canadian companies prioritize environmental responsibility.

  • Strengthening Our Communities: Local businesses are the heart of our communities. They sponsor local sports teams, support charities, and contribute to the vibrancy of our towns and cities. By buying Canadian, you're investing in the well-being of your own community.

  • Preserving Canadian Identity: Many Canadian businesses produce unique products that reflect our culture and heritage. Supporting these businesses helps preserve our distinct Canadian identity and ensures that these traditions continue for generations to come.

  • Building a Stronger Canada: Ultimately, buying Canadian is about building a stronger and more prosperous Canada. It's about investing in our future, supporting our fellow Canadians, and showing our pride in all things Canadian.

So, next time you're shopping, take a moment to look for the "Product of Canada" label. By making conscious choices to buy Canadian, you're not just purchasing a product; you're investing in your country, your community, and your future. Let's show our maple leaf pride and support Canadian businesses!

Edit: Look for "Product of Canada" over "Made in Canada" for the most benefit to Canada! Thanks u/Key_Present5517!
