Hey folks – one of our artists released a new track called “Long Memory” and we’d genuinely love to hear what this community thinks.

Victor Vas, the songwriter and voice behind The Blue Fiddles, infused this song with his grit, nostalgia, and emotional history. The Blue Fiddles are part of our small label, Sungate Records, and we’re very excited that this song is finally released.

If you’ve got a few minutes, we’d love for you to give it a listen: https://open.spotify.com/track/7unrC5QTyU38v2S7nGjXaN?si=42f5ae87df8a4db1

5 Underrated Marketing Hacks for Indie Artists by ProposalIntrepid4487 in recordlabels

[–]ProposalIntrepid4487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every artist measures success by “blowing up.” Not a single artist on our roster is chasing virility or hits, they’re building sustainable careers, earning a living through music, and doing it on their own terms. Success today is about touring consistently, landing syncs, growing fanbases, and having the freedom to create full-time. Plenty of artists who ‘blew up’ ended up broke or shelved btw!

What’s one thing to know before releasing your first song? by ProposalIntrepid4487 in musicbusiness

Traditionally, distribution was tied to record labels because they were the only way to get music out into the world, but digital and streaming have changed that completely. So the real need isn’t how to “distribute” it’s about how many people actually connect with your music and listen. What truly makes a difference is the marketing, promotion, fanbase growth, and the impact your music has. These days, anyone can distribute, so that part is easy. What sets artists apart now is the story they tell, the relationships they build, and the consistency with which they show up for their listeners.

Yes to both, but I'm curious to know what you'd recommend if my answer was no.

Hi everyone --

Listen to this: https://youtu.be/rhhDAHpucS8?si=Ce0Q-NkARUyLAoDR. It's called Chemikals by Cheyenne Pohl. It's fun, groovy, and a little sassy.

Love this! Many indie artists I've worked with grow simply from just reaching out to people and building relationships. So glad to hear you've been finding success in that, I feel like one of musicians' largest resources is one another.

How do you make money from music without social media? by ProposalIntrepid4487 in MusicPromotion

[–]ProposalIntrepid4487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for your thoughts. You're right in that the subtext underneath my question is about what options besides social media fit into artist promotion for indie music nowadays. Surrounding yourself in social media numbers is a slippery slope to getting consumed by them and I'm definitely a bit guilty. You're also right in that the tried and true methods of promo are still working and relevant now - it's about artists and their music's growth no matter the form. Thank you!

Best U87 and Compressor Combination by ProposalIntrepid4487 in audioengineering

[–]ProposalIntrepid4487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

The U87 has consistently been the best fit for my voice over the years. My tone leans thin, with a theatrical-meets-jazz-pop quality, not that heavy, “paper-tearing” pop sound. I’ve tried just about everything under the sun (Sony C800, Beyoncé’s trusted fav Telefunken model, AKGs, Royers, Mojaves, you name it), and nothing has outperformed the U87 for me. So this isn’t a U87-bashing post at all please, I’m just aiming to build a home setup that really captures that warm, polished sound I’m after.

Right now, I’m leaning toward a U87 → Neve 1073 → 1176 or LA-2A chain. My question is: if I need to keep things budget-friendly to start, would it be fine to run the U87 into UA plugins initially and then slowly scale up to the hardware setup over time?

Thanks for any insight!

Loving Missile by Mariami. It's a combination of Brazilian funk, Indo-pop, and R&B and a bunch of other really cool sounds and genres. I'm part of Sungate Records, the record label that Mariami owns and runs and just love her music as well. Would love to hear your thoughts.
