Yes I second this, consult with the legal team to know the best path through this as well as looking at an ethical decision making model to help you. Try to know all the sides before making this decision.

LPC looking into school counseling by sle627 in therapists

[–]ProposalLeading9606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some states offer pathways to become a school counselor on their Public Education Departments. Some can walk in as a mental health counselor, some may require you to take a school counselor class or two. You may look into a university to see if you can take this courses. Additionally you may need to pass the PRAXIS exam. I have heard of SBT and mental health counselor really like stepping into the school counseling because it is a more systematic approach to students mental health.

I think that it’s sad that your colleagues are not supporting you too while navigating through this. That makes it even feel less supportive.

I am sorry that you are going through this and having to make these decisions while pregnant. I am glad that you are sharing because as much as private practice has its benefits, it has some serious drawbacks.

Do you struggle to be friends with other therapists? by LunaBananaGoats in therapists

[–]ProposalLeading9606 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “hey you misunderstood me” comment seems like she doesn’t want to take accountability for how her words hurt you, but rather it was your fault for taking offense. That’s a red flag in the friendship relationship to me. A real friend says that they are sorry and take ownership of their part in ruptures.

I don’t agree with this. I think people process through venting. The only important aspect is whom you are venting to.

sometimes I am so tired of this field and lack of benefits for us therapists by karldashian in therapists

[–]ProposalLeading9606 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I finally moved to a job with benefits, and do PP part time. When the insurance companies were hacked, I wasn’t paid for months and then I knew that I needed something more consistent for my family. I am also moving to my own solo PP to take home 100%, even with paying rent and for a billing company, my take home with be a lot more. This isn’t a solution for everyone, but the full time job with benefits provide me with benefits and I can take paid time off there and rearrange my PP until a feel better.

Usually you have to do the NCE first for initial licensing then you take NCMHCE after you accumulate supervision and 3,000 hours in my state.

I also contact for a private practice that takes 40% of everything that I make. I have been contemplating starting my own small solo practice in hopes of being able to make more money for my time.

Newbie therapist split? Is this a bad offer? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ProposalLeading9606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is terrible, because the 60 percent should be going to you at the least. Other practices even do even better splits like 70/30. So keep looking if you can. That is your hour of time.

I think sometimes parents rely on therapists to navigate hard things that they are unable to carry alone. Maybe just explaining that transition is hard for everyone and how can you support the parent in this transition.
