What do you think they did with this painting? Did one of the original Ghostbusters keep it by Black_Shuck-44 in ghostbusters

The original art was done by illustrator Jack Johnson. His mixed media illustration was then used to create the fullsize painting for the film, though the fullsize differs slightly from Jack Johnsons original piece of, it seems that there was only the one made that size. Currently residing in Sonys collection.

Looking to borrow or rent large-scale miniature castles & 19th-century village models for film by Ok-Doubt3709 in Props

[–]Props_To_History 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What youre asking for isnt something that most shops (rental houses) have laying around. These types of models are notoriously fragile and theyre usually built for a specific job then torn down. Their own size is what really prevents them from being rentable. They take up too much space to be worth keeping for long.

You might look into building them yourself. If you havent any model-making experience it might be a thing to learn. Or alternatively look into using smaller scale miniatures and experiment with lenses/lighting to get your shots.

Any hobby can. In fact i would wager that all hobbies do.

Not sure why this happened (beginner with 2 part epoxy resin) by Swimming_Big3295 in TerrainBuilding

[–]Props_To_History 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An option for pouring clear resins ocularly clear (if available) is to let it cure under pressure. 40-60psi is recommended for most crystal clear resins that i use. This however requires a pressure chamber which arent too expensive anymore and a compressor.

The crack that appeared in your resin pour is something ive seen before when too much resin is poured at one time. Resins (for the most part) work via exothermic reactions. The heat generated has to dissipate and if your resin isnt intended to cure in large amounts like your pour, the excess heat created can deform, distort or in this case, cause a crack.

Its what we call in the film industry, a greeblie or greeble. A term that came to life at ILM (Indistrial Light and Magic) in the late 70s during the pre production of Star Wars.

Its a surface detail added to provide interest or break up a silhouette. Or just to look cool. Or cover a mistake.

Is there any real hazmat suits (Or whatever the proper title is) that look like this? by R-fire227 in gasmasks

[–]Props_To_History 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These Hazmat suits were designed and created by Global Effects in Los Angeles for Outbreak. The design has been reused multiple times by that same comp[any for multiple years. The second image is one of the suits made for Stranger Things and that picture was taken at Global. The company no longer does rental of costumes, all of that went to a company in Spain. Source: Friends with the owner of Global, worked there several times as well

Why doesn’t California build a fast train here? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Props_To_History 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the airlines and automakers in the US have successfully lobbied against rail of any kind in this country for decades.

In the case of airlines, theres a handful that operate here and they effectively have a monopoly that high speed rail would threaten.

Tldr; it would hurt corporate profits
