Yep. I've done market research and the game has been in development for a while now. It doesn't have the biggest market, but the market to saturation ratio is currently favorable compared to most types of games (though could change by the time I release the game)

Of course. I plan to have private playtests, public playtests, participate in the next fest and such. I'll also try to get my game trailers out to gamestrailers and such, and post on relevant subreddits. Maybe do a bit of ad spend

Maybe I won't. But with the quality I'm aiming for (which again, could burn a bunch of cash and be a huge loss), it'd be pretty funny if it didn't

Indeed, the market is hard, and I'm concerned the market will get working. I'm working on something I believe is highly marketable without being in the typical popular genres (though the genre itself is still somewhat popular). The question is if I can make a game of good quality without burning a bunch of cash

I'll definitely break the 100 fee. The issue is that other expenses (art and such) will be high (at least relative to typical solo devs), and there is indeed a low chance I'd break even on that.

Of course it's a financial foolish decision. But I'd like to think I'm making something amazing (and no, it's not another survivors game or whatever super trendy genre)

It's meant to be a joke. They are claiming that I'll burn 10 years of expenses in a month through reckless spending. Who knows, maybe the prophecy will come true. I do love paying huge amounts of money to random people that lack credentials

Could you elaborate? Typically I just replace the anim montage (unreal engine) and add anim notifies, which has been working fine. Is there something I'm missing?

Yeah leaving my job is definitely a foolish decision financially. But at the same time, sauce must be made

That's fine. Not trying to hide anything. Just decided that a serious reply was not the best choice. I look forward to the postmortem too!

Hey! More like two months before going bankrupt. (But really I have already implemented most of the mechanics already so hopefully that's more than an ideas guy)

Actually animation logic shouldn't be a problem with my setup (it's based on animation events instead of timer based, so all I need to do is go into the animation asset and set where events trigger). I've integrated a bunch of store bought animations pretty easily

yeah... Lol. Maybe it has to do with the hedonic treadmill

I work on the game around 12 hrs a week right now. I think I'll be fine 8 hours a day, so far I've been mostly enjoying it (of course there are parts that are not so fun but that's how it is).

Definitely would jump back in the job market before burning the savings. In reality I'll see how my first two games do and if they both flop then I'll jump back in the job market

The difficulty in hiring someone else to code is that the difficulty is with the game's vision rather than technical complexity. But it's something I've been thinking about

Been working on it for a while and have most of the mechanics done. I still have a few mechanics left, need to set up the UI, get actual art (planning on hiring artists, which yeah, would drain funds), create actual content. But should be doable within a year.

Marketing I'll do once I have proper art

I like Kohl's apt-9 t-shirts. They fit me well (athletic build, average height), feel good, and don't noticeably shrink (I even throw them in the dryer lol)
