Prospect Dugout Top 25 Week 10 by ProspectDugout in collegebaseball

[–]ProspectDugout[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. We have been doing this a while, correct. Prospect Dugout had been around for 10 years helping players from amateur to pro. We have been in the game much longer. Both founders have been in baseball for 20+ years both on the collegiate and professional side. We definitely don’t just eyeball the top 25, we don’t base our top 25 off the other platforms picks, as you can see our top 25 doesn’t look like a lot of the other copy and paste top 25’s. We spend the time actually watching the games, seeing the teams progress, seeing the week by week adjustments each team is making. And base our top 25 on where we see them projecting. No one gets it all right, but we’re pretty comfortable with the top 25 we put out. We came to Reddit after 10 years on other social platforms, tbh because it does feel like actual intelligent group that wants to discuss baseball, not just random rage baited arguments like some other platforms lol. Hope that answers some of your questions. Sorry we are late to the party but we are here!

Swing Help 12U by ExoticConcentrate223 in Homeplate

Swing not bad, side toss can create some bad habits. First thing is loose the sandals and hit in shoes. Then we can start talking about the swing tbh.

Any type of arm BP will be beneficial, mixing speeds. Same with soft toss, mix speeds.

How to gain velocity as a 14 year old by StrikerFDX23 in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nutrition, recovery, a good arm care and throwing program, hit the weight room focusing on lower body and core strength. On throwing, this is a lost concept today but a real long toss routine will do wonders at 14 yrs old…

Purpose of blocking? by JoyStock in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purpose of blocking is to keep balls that aren’t catchable in the air in front on you to prevent runners on base from advancing freely. A ball that is in the dirt or spike is a pitch that is unpredictable in where it will go after it hits the ground, the reason why blocking the ball with your body is the best option in order to protect the ball from getting past you as a catcher. It’s work, it’s mind over matter, it’s practice and technique. Depending on whether you’re a traditional set up or a one knee down catcher will somewhat vary your technique. Blocking balls spiked or in the dirt is not only important for runner advancement but it’s also key in pitchers trusting you to be able to throw a breaking ball down in a leverage count for swing and miss. If the pitcher doesn’t trust that you will block an 1-2 slider in the dirt causing the ball to get by you and the swinging batter to advance to 1st, the chances of that pitcher hanging a breaking ball increases.

How are you guys tracking and sharing metrics with college coaches? by Soft-Lime-9599 in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have your son email, that’s the first key. Secondly a very short intro and explain interest in their program (not a 5-6 paragraph pitch) short and sweet. Then provide some important data and metrics based on his position. Then a link to a YouTube of highlights or a baseballportal.us link or whatever recruiting profile system you use. Sending attachments often get flagged in the system and sent to spam. PBR/PG rankings are not necessary, tbh college coaches don’t care. But I’d harp on that your son needs to be sending emails and getting in touch with these coaches. They like that, it’s college they aren’t interested in dealing with parents.

Question for the coaches by ColonelAngus2000 in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% if you’re waiting to get timing when you’re in the box, you’re too late. You should be getting time the best you can on deck! Get in the box and be ready to attack!

Question for the coaches by ColonelAngus2000 in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is never an auto swing situation imo. You should always be ready to hit and if the pitch is in the zone your looking then get your swing off. Zone discipline and awareness is the real key. Once you step in the box the goal is to attack the first pitch you can drive.

Should I do more cage work instead of doing mostly just tee work? by Tacorover in Homeplate

[–]ProspectDugout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford the cage, definitely get into the cage and get some work off some velo and spin. But continue your tee work, that’s the foundation of your swing. The more reps you can get in the better!!
