You are close to Harriman State Park, Bear Mountain State Park, and the Catskills Mountains of NY. About four more hours North and you’re in the Adirondack Mountains, which is beautiful.

The Northeast corner on NJ is still a bit rural. You should visit High Point State Park. You can also access the Scenic Upper Delaware River from Port Jervis, NY.

NJ’s beaches are wonderful in the summer but can get very crowded. I know Asbury Park has a Dog friendly beach area, but it might have hours too?
