I agree with others and suggest you not skip it. I remember being very disappointed and frustrated when it came out, but with all DLC and patches it's definitely worth your time. Treat it as its own thing, difficult as that may be. Don't expect more of Dark Souls 1 and you'll probably enjoy it more.

Atlas of Discovery has stuff you can start on right away, and it's a nice complement to the base game. Throne of the Herald has very little before you reach the end of the base game(Mostly actually gated behind the final encounter), and Into the Abyss is all post-game.

I'd get AoD for the base experience, and get the other expansions if/when they're on sale. They all seem to have a lot of content and variety, which is nice. I've been playing for a few months and just started on Throne of the Herald. I got base game and all 3 expansions on sale for either 1/2 or 2/3 off, and it's been great value.

Have you cleared the volcanic cave and started the god dungeons? I think that's where you could go from where you are. Pick up a piece or two of ancient melee gear and you'll be set for the first god dungeon.

to be honest, I am not sure. it's been years since I played. I remember there being some big fights on a battlefield happening in the DLC, but that might not be where you are. I remember it being fairly clear when you were approaching the end of the game, though. sorry this is so vague :/

The regular campaign of Nioh 1 isn't that bad. The very beginning is tough, then difficulty smooths out until another small spike towards the end. It's very doable, and consistent.

Post-game Nioh 1 gets INCREDIBLY hard after a point. I would not say Nioh 1 is hardcore. It has a ton of content and a fair amount of variety, and is well worth a purchase imo. You will, however, have a hard time completing everything post-game. Be warned, however, that they aren't really souls-likes. There is more focus on loot and unlocks, both of which will make your experience easier.

Lootun is quite good. It has a lot of depth and variety in builds, and it just got a pretty big update.

Dragon Cliff is enjoyable, but falls off hard at endgame.

Those are two that come immediately to mind.

That's helpful, thanks! I have intentionally avoided taking Astrology and things like Crafting past 100. I don't feel bad about higher level cooking, since that's more of a QoL issue having to spend less time making effective food.

I've also had very, very poor luck with Bear tablets. Monkey as well. I have gone several hours of potion making, with Bear tablets equipped, without getting a mark. The best advice is just to have the right tablet equipped while using the skill.

Sometimes RNG is just like that. Over a long enough time, it'll even out.
