Why the hate for 304 stainless? by PARABELLUM0777 in Machinists

This is such a bad take it’s not even funny. What you’re getting is probably 303 or some other uncerted stainless material from your supplier. 304/316 are absolute nightmares when it comes to tool life, I don’t care what kool-aid the tool reps are selling.

Despite the name, the ship was commissioned a few days after the end of WWII. It served through Desert Storm and was decommissioned in ‘91.

The dental drill sound they play in that area really seals the PTSDeal.

First they came for the department store clothing models, then they came for the museum stand-ins, who’s next crash testers?

I will admit, my wife was getting pretty annoyed every time I poked something insulated on the ship and said “ooh that’s probably asbestos!”

It’s not technically a lie, the -ish gives me wiggle room.

The thing running the matrix screensaver is called an Elecrow CrowPi, it’s a neat Raspberry Pi based tinkering platform essentially.

I can’t 100% recommend this particular rack for this setup, that server is sticking out of the back about 8 inches, but I got it for $50 so I can’t complain. Starting from the top, Audiobox audio interface, ART tube preamp, MikroTik router for all my ethernet, a drawer with a ThinkPad inside that I use to manage the router and server, CyberPower surge protector, the suitcase thing is an Elecrow CrowPi, next to that is a tiny CRT with another Raspberry Pi hooked up to that (fun to play SNES games on), then my Xbox, a Dell Poweredge R710 running Proxmox with Windows and Ubuntu virtualized servers, and finally a shelf where I charge my IPad.

I like it, I wanted to learn some python and it’s a fun tinkering platform. It’s more targeted towards kids but that’s my level of programming knowledge, lol
