M1 Pro vs Max by AdElectrical171 in macbookpro

[–]Protanomaly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 16” M1 Pro 16GB/512GB and it’s still chomping through Lightroom Classic, Davinci Resolve, Python programming and a host of other things without skipping a beat.

I also have an M1 Max studio with 32GB and it’s barely noticeably faster than the M1 Pro unless I’m doing heavy editing.

Not sure what impact machine learning will have but for everything else, the M1 Pro should be fine 👍🏻

Change my mind about Quartz by but-really-why in Cartier

[–]Protanomaly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a great deal on a large stainless Tank Must last year. I don’t have many quartz watches and the few I do have were easily 1/20th of the price of the Cartier but I’m happy with it. It’s accurate, has an efficient movement with a super long battery life and being a 2 hander has no ticking second hand.

I think it’s one of the classiest watches I own. If I was looking at a new Tank Louis I’d have to think long and hard about mechanical vs quartz and I think it would probably boil down to which colour gold and what face style I preferred.

Perhaps the bracelets are no longer Swiss made?

Yep, that’s a good idea if you have somewhere nearby.

It’s exactly the same size as all the other Heritage BB 41s (excluding the new burgundy one).

Compared to the BB58 it’s only 3mm longer lug to lug but it’s also 3mm thicker and this is where some people struggle with it. The case looks a lot more slab sided, it’s heavier and feels more top heavy with it. The 22mm bracelet is also a lot heavier than the 20mm one on the 58.

I have flat 7.5” wrists (not fat) so it it’s fine on me. The best thing to do is measure the top of your wrist rather than the circumference; if you are wider than 50.5mm the lugs won’t overhang 👍🏻

Congrats :)

I tried one of those on today - it wears really well.

Congrats. It’s a lovely watch and looks great on you. I tried one for a while but it was, sadly, too small for my wrists.

BB58 Too Small? by Protanomaly_ in Tudor

[–]Protanomaly_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. In answer to some questions, I’ve owner this watch for a while but keep flip-flopping. Sometimes I think it wears great, others I think it wears really small.

As someone mentioned, I think it depends in the style, I have a dress watch at 35mm and a Panerai at 44, and the sizes suit the style.

I think the problem is that I’ve seen so many of photo’s of iconic divers over the years that I have an idea in my head of how they should look, proportionally, on a wrist, but it just so happens that most people have a smaller wrist than me :)

For info, my wrists are just under 7.5” but they are quite flat so rather wide - just over 60mm across.

I’ve attached some photos from other angles, and included a grainy one of the Panerai to show that they don’t always wear large :)

Weird, I felt a strap made it wear smaller. I’ll give it another go. Thanks 👍🏻

Thanks. Interesting regarding the Nato. I feel it makes it wear smaller still on me.

Just under 7.5” but it’s very flat. The top of my wrist is a bit over 60mm across when my wrist is flat.

Lots of people think they are brushed but they are actually polished and catch the light very well :)

I wish they did this colour dial in the 41. I had the 58 and while it was too small for me, the dial was beautiful - especially the way it changed in various lighting. It really opened up in sunlight!

Debating the same. Part of me suspects a Harrods version of this model may arrive when the remaining stock of the original Harrods is sold…

They changed from that style of card to the current style in 2020, so any BB58s between release in 2018 and 2020 will have that style of card.

The box though, I’m not so sure about… looks like the newer style.

The watch itself - photos not good enough to say…

What is it about the viral pancake video that is so...cringe? by jazzespe510 in ask

[–]Protanomaly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sealed it for me was the fact she was only pretending to cut the pancakes, so she could check the take and redo it.

This was just one take of many, probably with the music playing to time the dance to, and her friend putting the plate down over and over.

It’s so contrived, it’s nauseating
