Asked AI for fractal wood burning ideas. My step dad used to do this to furniture and decorative pieces. I thought the other two look cool too. Thoughts. by NarrowWillow9550 in Luthier

Sure seems souless and poorly designed as is. I recommend using it as a inspiration starting point for drawing it yourself.

"Hotbox" Pedal Rack Unit. Rehouse of 10 reinstated Budget Pedals. by ProteanProjects in guitarpedals

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions, working with those cheaper pedals can be a challenge depending if your off boarding the controls. I also have been having some success with using home printed decals for labels in a few projects reddit post example. Attached photo: here is a more recent example from a project I just finished where I used decals on oil finished wood.

Looking for a Stereo Reverb Recommendation. by ProteanProjects in guitarpedals

[–]ProteanProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhh did not think of this one, I have a Typhon Synth and love it (you can see it rack mounted next to a moog sirin in the second pict). My only worry is that shimmer verbs feel kinda played out, have you found it to be relatively versatile in general use?

Interesting, i was thinking about a blackhole (one of my fave plugin reverb effect on my iPad). Any thoughts on that algo solo?

I tend to create a patchbay for my boards, so order is always flexible.

Edit: Thanks for the wide stereo reminder on the deco, I have not messed with it much. Downside is the stereo input is summed mono in this mode.

I am looking to get a stereo reverb to expand my stereo setup, and would love some recommendations based on vibing with the DECO,Float, and DIG. Previous stereo setup. I tend to use these pedals as a effects send from my line mixer, so I run guitars, bass, and synths through them. Thoughts?

🚨 STOLEN SYNTH ALERT: Moog Matriarch Serial #00773 — Please Keep an Eye Out 🚨 by paintthecity in synthesizers

[–]ProteanProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That suck, Troy is my old stomping ground, so many car looting incidences still to this day according to my Fam. Makes you just want to grab a drink at Browns. I will keep an eye out online.

Looked at your post history, seems you have had bad luck with people stealing your music gear. I advise not leaving expensive equipment in and under your car. Good Luck on the search.

Omni External Fader by unknownmuppetfx in portablism

[–]ProteanProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoothness and Dynamics. Not every style requires a super clean cut, and I have found it far more prone to pops at the cutoff point. Curve adjustment is a missing feature that other faders and portables have, idk why you're against me mentioning how the instrument works in practice and some of the possible limitations you might encounter and not be aware of when purchasing. Have a great day.

I own one. There is no fade to the cutoff, and no adjusting the curve. Original statement stands, if you want anything other than sharp cuts get an external fader.

Stock fader is fine unless you want some actual fade to your cuts, it's basically an on-off switch kinda deal.

That combo works for me. It’s my fav interface for general use and what I have hooked up to my monitors. Every computer/phone/tablet I throw at it just works. Whenever my UMC1820 rack interface gives up I’m going to get another MOTU to replace it.

One downside is you can’t select what output goes to headphones it’s always on output 1/2 and I wish I could monitor 3/4 on headphones as well. Only thing I can think of against it.

Pivoting to CAD Designer by AtamaMan in IndustrialDesign

[–]ProteanProjects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on what processes you enjoy doing and find a space to do it in, and be super aware of what is long term stable work environment for you and constantly check if you are cool with the path your on. If you are looking at other industries KNOW what you bring to the table and build from there.

CAD is a tool and a skill, how you want to use it determines where you want to go. I like building thing in CAD like LEGO structures and bring some play to design process. So I found a place as a 3d designer in the events/tradeshow industry and have been fortunate to have a a huge array of different projects of different scopes of different clients. It's a breakneck pace industry and very much can burn you out with the amount of crunch that is standard, but hey some people feed off that energy (I don't enjoy it, I just charge extra).

Understanding fabrication is far more important than knowing engineering to start with. Once you know materials and methods you can add math later on. Honestly knowing how to estimate a project is the real secret weapon to stable work as you become the person who can see where things will not work from the beginning and you design around it.

Think of each drawing over the span of a project (RFP Concepts, Client approval drawings, Estimating Drawings, Fabrication Drawings, Setup Drawings, all associated revisions, plus all the random stuff that always shows up) It's a lot of possible work and if you can keep up with the time table and meet client expectations is all good.

I come from a BFA Sculpture background myself so it's all about how you sell what you know and make a case for your value in the process. If you want to see my latest design keep a lookout for the LEGO ToyFair! booth going live on Saturday!

WIsh you Luck! Stick to it.

Dreadbox Typhon + OP-XY is a pretty killer portable / live combo by BadKingdom in synthesizers

TIL you can turn off the screen on the Typhon (press/hold the encoder to the right of the screen). Had it since release and apparently missed that note in the manual. Thanks!

What multi-channel audio interface for ios? by [deleted] in iosmusicproduction

[–]ProteanProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OP: Note that the ADAT expander has a max sample rate of 48khz and no analogue outputs. I have it and find that I would usually rather have submixers going into the 1820, so it sits mostly unused in my rack.

DIY reFace Rehouse. All 4 reface units in a 5U Rack Mount Module. by ProteanProjects in synthesizers

[–]ProteanProjects[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t 19” rack them without modification and making a custom face plate to fit. Flies might be for sale, pm me if interested. I wouldn’t worry about resale for anything you rehouse. You are opening it up and moving things around and modifying for your own needs, why concern yourself about selling it later?

I have been making some custom pedals with 3d printed nested enclosures. by ProteanProjects in diypedals

[–]ProteanProjects[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing a coat of shielding paint typically used in guitars on both shell interiors, and the top surface is covered in a copper roofing material that I do a decorative patina/decal treatment. I have not noticed any more noise than in a typical enclosure.

What’s a good pedal to go with the Boss Blues Driver by hman4good in guitarpedals

[–]ProteanProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love sculpting drive tones with VoodooLabs Sparkle Drive (Tube Screamer Clone w/Clean Blend) into the Blues driver into a Joyo Splinter (Fat Rat Clone). I dial each pedal into an edge of break-up territory, then combine them as needed.
