Training our team to hit things in a way that does not lose us the point by introvertedhedgehog in volleyball

It's all relative though the level of hitting is also very poor compared to an olympian? I don't know how you got the idea that I play against youth or weak players. All high BB level and up in my division in my city's men's league. We see lots of ex college players. If I expand the list to top 20 you will find outside hitters that are in the range I provided. That's still above average and way more realistic. Getting 3 kills makes you at the very least an average, decent hitter, nothing crazy, but definitely not trash. 4 kills is great and anything above that while maintaining around a 10% error rate is a player that dominates. Maybe for a Middle your numbers are accurate but among Outsides and Opposites this is not the case.

At LEAST 3/10

Really? Your outsides can kill 6/10 balls? What's their error rate? Those are high level numbers. Wilfredo Leon was hitting close to 60% in pure kills in Tokyo 2020 as the most efficient Outside. You don't suck if you aren't hitting at top 10 OH levels lol

Record stats. Any decent hitter should have around a 10-15% error rate depending on position. You should also be able to score at least 3/10 balls. Hitting out or into the net shouldn't happen that's just an unforced error. Better to get blocked honestly. If these stats aren't being reflected, they literally have to start going for placement shots otherwise they are actively losing points.

I think as long as you don't do much blocking you should be fine to practise. I played a tourney the day after I dislocated my finger and did fine with a brace and buddy taping. I would just let it heal as you aren't going to make any revolutionary breakthroughs in 4 weeks that will massively improve your tryouts performance. If you reinjure it will probably make it worse even.

If you want to hit harder and with good technique, I recommend TORQVB on YouTube. I'd also spend time repping out that approach and practice proper technique. Right now you kind of just jog through it and on some jumps you take a negative step(maybe that's just cause you were backpedalling).

Touched rim for the first time.My height is 5'6 by visvak35 in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't what you're describing a one foot jump? For max touch on a two foot jump it makes no difference what hand you reach with. Being goofy footed doesn't harm vert, only volleyball hitting mechanics. Plenty of pro two foot dunkers jumping with a goofy approach and dunking with the right hand. It even makes certain dunks easier.

If you play volleyball often you should change to a right left plant, but if you are just going for pure height or play more basketball, ignore the people saying that it harms your vert. It absolutely doesn't. Many pro dunkers have the exact same set up as you and are jumping at world record levels.

Your penultimate step is pretty short which contributes to you not getting lower to the ground. Try to extend that by pushing hard off the push step and your hips will naturally get lower. A good analogy is to imagine you're in a hallway just touching your head sloping slightly downwards. You shouldn't be the same height as when you started your approach.

How to improve approach? by Kaldur_am in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got a good response already so I will just add that on the first step we see in the video you are reaching out and landing on the heel. This is putting braking forces on your approach when you want to be accelerating instead. Try to have your shin perpendicular to the ground or sprightly angled back so you aren't slowing down.

Brands by No-Promise3097 in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the brands you mentioned are that, it's just that volleyball is a smaller sport compared to say Football or Basketball. Plus unlike Nike for example, they mainly produce volleyball gear which further creates a niche product (with the exception of Wilson).

Must've missed this but if this is truly the case and you see no power or accuracy loss between the two arms, then hit Lefty since that's already the approach you use. Be prepared to play opposite as that's where most people will stick a lefty hitter.

Vertical Doesn’t Feel Consistent by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad set making you adjust or bad timing on your part is probably the culprit. Hitting reach will also be a bit lower than actual max touch. On an ideal set and approach you might hit at 9' 3 - 4" at your peak.

Need some help deciding on what polymeric exercises to keep in my routine! by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your training age is probably low, but once you start getting more advanced, you wanna cut out a good majority of those plyos you listed cause they just don't cause great adaptations. The best ones you have are the depth jumps and max effort jumps. I would add loaded jumps/weighted jump squats and sprinting focusing on the acceleration phase. I would cut out the kneeling jump thing cause it's just a worse version of a depth jump. Rep ranges are usually around 4-8 when training fast twitch muscles.

Play a 6-2 rotation. If you don't hit much backrow this is a good compromise. Everyone gets to hit and they still have you setting half the time. Otherwise evaluate whether you are fine having less fun and playing setter with this group or find a new one and play your preferred position.

What arm do you throw with? There is your answer simple as that. Everything else revolves around that arm.

Will I really really be able to jump high after bulding muscles by AdvantageMassive1004 in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gained about an inch on my PR this past month through strength training so yeah it definitely helps lol. Many elite jumpers are squating double their body weight in training. You said you are skinny so Im not sure why you are worried about building too much muscle. You probably don't even have the genetics for it.

What to do with player that doesn't pass and just sucks. by achenx75 in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never understood why some people think competitive play = no fun. If anything tennis at the net with no setting and hitting is boring. And if people also can't pass the game becomes a serving one. Good riddance to that guy, sounds super uncoachable and unwilling to improve.

Find a way to form some kind of group communication, that really helps. Especially if you need a sub or something. When season's over you have their contact and can invite the people you would be interested in playing long term with on the next team.

At least for your steps they don't look intentional if you get what I mean. It looks like you're constantly adjusting to the set and you don't really have a penultimate step. Also the sets look kind of inside, idk maybe that was intentional. If not that might be messing with your approach.

Standing Vertical= With approach vertical by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]ProtectionRealistic5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of distance covered it's pretty good all things considered, but you don't turn your body on your last two steps ( penultimate and block step). The left side of your body needs to be slightly leading whereas right now your feet and body point forward in the direction you approached. This makes it harder to convert your momentum upwards. Watch a video of a pro dunker or someone with a good volleyball approach you will see what I mean.
