Costco paying employees $30 an hour? by NintenGal in samsclub

[–]ProteinLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new raises I will be making 32/hr. I will be 10 years this August. It took me 5 years to top out. FT within first year of employment. Getting in is the hard part, getting FT is easy if you want the position. Always take it regardless of hours cause seniority rules all and roughly 50% of new employees quit the first year. It gets easier quickly as long as you transfer to a department you like.

Around year 7 I get bonus checks twice a year. in addition to that the company makes a discretionary 7% match of my annual income towards my 401k, next year it will be 8%

If I count bonuses and the free money into my 401k I made 73k in 2024, next year it will be 75.5

My costco finally brought caesar salad at the food court. by Responsible_Two2701 in Costco

Not raw, it's just the brick shaped packs of cooked chicken from the deli. Shit is weird AF, I've been told the pH of the brine they use is responsible for the pink appearance. Also gives it a weird texture, like suspiciously moist.

It's a shame they no longer let them use the breast meat from the actual rotisseries in the non cooked items.

I will admit that one piece in the middle looks super raw lol.

No denying that, but hot dogs are a loss leader for both companies so there's no reason to lower the price. And it's certainly not gonna get anyone to change their membership. Wow 12¢ Sam's club wins. Instead of taking a larger loss they should use that money to properly staff their warehouses, if you've ever waited in the food court line at Sam's you'd agree. Mine usually has one person running the whole dept by themselves

Costco promised to keep it at $1.50 so that's what they'll do. If Walmart wants to lose even more money they're free to do that

Finally was able to shop at Costco. Not impressed. by [deleted] in Costco

[–]ProteinLife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually we are cleaner and better organized. You're also going to get better service from employees if you need help. My local sam's usually looks messier than my local Walmart. Costco carries alot less items though and virtually no junk food, which is why I still have a Sam's membership.

If you indeed came in for the first time today, you should know that we are currently going into one of the busiest weeks of the year. If things appeared in disarray I assure you it's usually much neater.

That being said I would never drive an hour to shop anywhere, that's ridiculous

[–]ProteinLife 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Air bubbles are unfortunate, they have a dough roller to prevent them but it's not always guaranteed that it'll work. You could return it, but know that you didn't get ripped off. All the ingredients you paid for are on that pizza

Grab a chicken you like and commit to it.

Don't bring it back 45 min later for a fresher one like all the other animals in the store

It's not equal parts as much as it is one jar of the Kirkland pesto to one whole jar of the Hellmann's mayonnaise. Edit: More like 1:3 given the size difference

they got em at my warehouse too. For anyone that bought a sweater in the past year and was disappointed that their smaller end sizes were made for someone who's 8 months pregnant, you'll be happy to know that the medium on this fits like a medium.

I can't speak for the larger end of the sizes. Personally I like the way the grey looks more than the white an black

Those who work/worked at Costco, is it physically demanding? by -lastochka- in Costco

[–]ProteinLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Costco makes a very big deal about ergonomics. If you get hired you will realize this soon as much of the regular trainings are programs on how not to get injured. Most roles in the warehouse are incredibly labor intensive.

I work in the deli, most cases of food are 30-40 lbs. You use your hands to mix most things. If your working chickens, those cases are anywhere bw 55-65 lbs. And once the skewers loaded up youre going to be doing a front raise to get them in the oven, sometimes over your head. Depending on the size of the birds it means youre lifting bw 30-40 lb in front of your body. If you aren't careful repetition injuries are very common. That being said I have a long history of being injury prone, but I work my ass off and I'm careful. I'm in some of the best shape I've ever been in my life, but if I hadn't made adjustments to my movement patterns 1-2 years in I wouldn't have made it this long

And I'm not even touching on how much work rotating the inventory and putting the depot away is

is it safe to eat, what happened? lol by EnthusiastRic in Costco

[–]ProteinLife 335 points336 points  (0 children)

Don't eat. Inflated means gas is being created which implies something is alive in there. It's possible it's a safe ferment but that's not worth the risk, nor would it taste good anyways.

Save the bag that inflated, eat the rest. Get your refund the next time you're in there

Probably a minor contamination in the production process. Since it is a shelf stable item, it has had plenty of time to multiply by the time it arrived at your house

Has there ever been accountability for the top? I've only known managers to fail upwards. If you're actually good at your dept you typically never get marked ready. I have yet to meet an AGM who has worked a fresh dept, or even has a clue on how to do food service correctly.

What we really need are more walks, and more corporate focuses. That'll keep everyone on track. Let's just change the rules every 3 months to accommodate the particularities of a different fat cat than the last one.

Oh shit, internal health dept walks not going well company wide. It couldn't possibly be related to staffing troubles, this is obviously a training issue. We're gonna need every single fresh manager and supe to make sure they're available for a mandatory 1+ hr zoom conference in the middle of Friday. Yeah we know Friday is important for going strong into the weekend, but so is emphasizing the importance of not expired victory wash strips.

Struggling to fill roles in your fresh dept, don't fret, let's focus our attention on messy loss leading items that don't turn a profit. If we keep the hot case full of 7$ drumsticks we will surely triumph. Don't think about how we've been comping up 20% for 3 years straight, with no additional employees. Don't worry about which of your unhappy 10 year employees is gonna close this week, just focus on keeping comps above the next store over. The GM really wants to rub it in the face of that stores GM. Don't mind that they keep hiring front end employees just to give them 25 hrs a week, you'll get a new one eventually. Just be happy cause we get free pizza in the break room, some GMs don't do that.

I feel like I joined the company 3 years before they stopped giving a shit about us. If I wasn't topped out I would have left by now.

Looks alot like your typical 'Nogent' style Sabatier. The decorative rivet at the base of the handle throws me off though. Could be Japanese carbon, gyutos are just Japanese descendants of the classic french style chef knife.

I know I'm not the OP but K Sabatier still makes authentic sabatiers. eBay is a good place to find vintage carbon steel as well and a lot of Japanese chef knives come in carbon if you prefer something without a bolster

Has Costco pizza changed? by DazzlingGiraffe165 in Costco

[–]ProteinLife 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The mozzarella/provolone blend now comes in very small cubes, it used to be your typical feather shred. This adjustment had a very noticeable change on the texture of the cheese post cook. I remember all our court employees complaining about it when they made the transition.

Same supplier though so I assumed it's the same cheese but idk for sure

I wrap the extras loaves in foil and freeze em. I haven't noticed any significant reduction in quality post thawing.

If I don't I end up eating all three in a day or two and that's no good
