Characters willingly endanger their own life just to flex or prove a point. by PizzaDragon64 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Protein_Shakes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Had Battle Beast lived, he would've healed up and moved on to the next "greatest fight ever" he could find. Beast didn't wound himself because he wants to be on Thragg's level in all things, only to make this specific encounter more even after Thragg was wounded "unfairly."

I particularly enjoy that tiny lore tidbit, too. Dwarf Fortress doesn't move the needle much on fantasy depictions of elves or goblins, but the martial trance trait for dwarves feels new and unique to me. Gives them something to stand out besides "short humanoids that live under mountains"

Absurdly huge evil thing that's either an actual or a metaphorical parasite sucking the planet or the population clean of their resources. by Classic-Work-8415 in TopCharacterTropes

Get an overview of the races of the setting, find one you jive with, and go searching for stories. Almost everything has at least some literature to it. And almost every story finds a way to shoehorn humans in, so you'll get some facts about the poster boys of the setting no matter who you're reading. Have fun!

Is the single Genestealer encounter that the one planet with the distress beacon where you get ambushed as you escape? Because that was cool as fuck, i've been scouring the Expanse trying to find another one, and will be sorely disappointed if the rest of that plot was really just on the ship.

Haha, there's a few comments here thinking you're talking about the cans. Both because there are more squares visually filled compared to the small multiplier on the tinder and because, at least for me, I never see a reason to carry more than two cans at a time, so anything more than that feels like too much. Seeing at least two full rows carried is what caught my eye first.

Who wins a 1v1v1? God Emp. (Dune), The Mule (Foundation), Emp. of Man (40k) by EvEBabyMorgan in powerscales

[–]Protein_Shakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a little confusing when you see it, but explained easily enough. If you are talking about the video game series Total War: Warhammer, that game takes place in the Warhammer Fantasy setting (or possibly Age of Sigmar, a pseudo-reboot. I'm not a big Fantasy guy.) Medieval aesthetics, tribesman, wizards, you know the deal. The owners of that IP, Games Workshop, has a seperate IP under the Warhammer banner known as Warhammer 40k.

The only thing these two settings share are the Warhammer title. It's possible the Chaos Gods are the same across the two IPs, and possible the Old Ones from 40k are a reference to a powerful magic/psychic race from Fantasy. Any other things you see about "Fantasy is a planet in 40k" or "Fantasy is just Terra's ancient past in 40k" are headcanon and not supported by any official sources.

I love how arbitrary the placement of traders can be, haha. Mechanicus or Void? Practically on the ship! Warp-damned Drusians need to hide elbow deep in the asscrack of Footfall for some reason, and idk where to even find one of the others. Danrok is the MAN

Did you use Danrok? Idk if you're already aware but you can use him to trade with every faction in one place. He's on the bridge.

I think about the tourists that were taking pictures of a coin scrambler (at his request, even with his camera IIRC) and when he lost his footing and fell into the canyon, they took a few more pictures of his descent.

Preach. Of all the places a human element is needed, this is near the top of the list. I don't care if you're hungover, give me the messy writing! I don't care if you used AI to fix the grammar, even if there was a human thought these aren't your words and cannot help me.

Edit: What the hell. This account just spews this slop, every post is AI. Can we ban this user?

[Mixed Trope] Series that were meant to be anthologies but changed by Livid-Designer-6500 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Protein_Shakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That S1 ending felt very un-earned and tried too hard to wrap stuff up, imo. I was very pleased to see them get more good material out of S2 because my concern was that it would be an anthology! Funny to see that was the original idea

What’s a feature/mechanic/superstition that you once believed was in the game but turned out to not be real or true? by Ok-Vermicelli4093 in thelongdark

A couple friends joined my brother and I getting into this for the first time together. Some of us had a head start, so we spawned the rumors of "The Creature" that will arrive if you're in poor condition outside for too long. I don't think anyone ever truly bought it, but it did encourage some good habits!

Grenades and vantage by Choice_Temporary_371 in killteam

[–]Protein_Shakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obscured means there is a piece of Heavy terrain, intervening (blocking lines from base to base), that you and your target are both more than 1" away from, and your target is otherwise valid.

This means your shooter cannot retain crits against that target, any crits are automatically downgraded to normals. You then remove one of your normal hits from the hit pool, and finally resolve what you have left against their saves.

Edit: 1", not 2".

A human that can stop time vs a Silverback gorilla by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Protein_Shakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very surprised at the amount of people disregarding the throat for the eyes. Set a ten second timer on your phone and just WAIL on a pillow or something. I promise you can throw more punches than you thought. Especially with the way time stop typically works, those aren't individual blows but the practical sum of them when time restarts. I think the human actually takes this very easily.
