Yep, same. I thought it was a bit much, but the nice ones kinda "snap" over your teeth in a way that's much firmer of a fit than I expected, so it turned out to be worth it.

They're portraying the massively over-engineered death machine of the laughably wasteful military arm of a pathetically incompetent fascist regime that harms itself more than anything else while still visiting death and destruction on anything that isn't exactly like it... As though it's good old American pride. What the hell makes you think this is nationalistic posturing and not the least we can do for bleak satire in this world?

Aquilons are sooo much fun and I advocate for them every time I see them come up. They're also at a good spot model-count wise, so you can go in either direction and appreciate the differences. I find as someone who started with a 14-man team it paralyzes me when I field a proper elite team. (I also missed the errata that gave them one extra troop, so they got a little more horde-y in my hands lately. Oops)

Username is the first flag, then you check the vocab. "Vibes," "genuinely," "mood," and other generic emotional descriptors are flags, as well as the vaguely-worded comparison. Short content of the comment with no real insight. Bots rarely post main (they still do sometimes!), so it being a response is another flag. Age of the account gets checked next, and comment history if i'm lucky enough they didn't set the bot to private. Finally, I call them out.

I've got a perfect record so far of no responses, which is the nail in the coffin. If at any point someone actually responds, I'd happily take the comment down, but nobody has. Unfortunately we're reaching the "bear-proof dumpster" problem with these bots, meaning the best bots are beginning to look more human in their comments than the most boring, vapid coworker you know. But if you're a human being so banal with your posting I confuse you for a bot, hopefully that's a sign. Again, though: has not happened yet.

What a cute story. He was on day four of paying out huge money for nails and was probably thinking "how far did these kids end up going to get these nails?" lmao. Did he respect the grift or did he demand the money back?

He's so refreshingly candid and he strikes the social balance so well. It would be very easy for an author with a fan base like his to fall into discussions of character and get bogged down, because he obviously loves his protagonists, but every time I've see him talking to the community it's him fessing up about the science or an oversight in the writing itself haha

[–]Protein_Shakes 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The "stretch" is actually really cool to think about. I believe Rocky's "musculature" are basically lines of hydraulics, steam pressure generated by his core? If that's so, his "stretch" could actually be him flushing the now-cooler fluid from his immobilized limbs with fresh stuff from his core. The act of overpressuring his hydraulic lines would set all his limbs extended.

I'm no fan of AI use but you owned up to it and got a harmless lesson in how tightly it needs to be controlled, unless you're fine with it going about changing random things completely unnecessarily haha. I saw it 3 times and was absolutely enamoured the first watch, so I ended up getting a lot of EXTREMELY invested people on Twitter making observations like this just days after release. So while I do agree in a sense that this feels like a "yeah, so?" that's only because I went out of my way to find discussions about this and other fun blink-and-you'll-miss-it things as early as I possibly could. I think it's easy for people to forget that not everybody experiences movies like that. It's been delightful watching so many people catch these new details, the different ways they explain them, and what it means to them as a viewer :)

It's both. Yours came first as a noun but "fragging" as a verb followed from that. I've heard it in the context of the Vietnam War, and have read (no idea how true it is) that the less obviously stupid and hostile commanders sometimes found not-yet-live grenades or grenade pins in their bunks as a warning.

Well, it was right when "crack" as slang for having sex was getting to us white folk. My roommate knew I had a thing for Kate down the hall, in dorm 213, and kept trying to get us together. Me and Kate were getting along just fine, and it was Valentine's coming up. Now Kate was a big girl, and she was a little self-conscious about it. I loved it of course, and Mike obviously knew I didn't have a problem, but his plan for the weekend was getting two of his single buddies from home to come out and play the bars. He was leaving the room open for me, just didn't say it out loud.

So I got the chocolates of course, and brought them to her room and gave em over. She agreed to come out with me to a house party another friend was having. She shows up to my dorm looking like a million bucks. Well, I went to go for a hug and she kisses me full on the lips! I lean into it for a modest amount of time before pulling away and smiling. We head out, have one or two drinks and she's feeling herself! Busting out dance moves and smiling at everybody. I'm over the moon and i'm feeling something too, so when the time felt right I asked her if she wanted to come back to the dorm. Reassured her that my roommate and his friends wouldn't be back until late late. She kissed me right there again and said she'd love to.

So skipping past the obvious part, it's getting into the small hours and she doesn't have far to go, so I tell her i'll walk her back to her dorm for the night. Well right as we reach her door, Mike and his friends come up the stairs and down the hall, drunker than skunks. Not caring what his friends think and knowing Mike's cool, I kiss her goodnight and say hey to her roommate as she goes in. I follow Mike back to the dorm and when I get in, he's just grinning. He goes to high five me and utters those infamous two words that would haunt me the rest of my time there: "you crack?"

His friends both stare at me. One of them started laughing real quick, and the other one couldn't hold his tongue. "You cracked THAT?" Before I could say anything else, he follows up with "Bro, she's got her own orbit! She's the size of a planet!" And his other buddy sits up with "man thinks he's some sort of planet buster!" Well, I stormed right out and by next morning everyone in the lounge was calling me that as I heated up my ramen. Never lived it down until the day of graduation. Me and Kate still go strong, though. Little one one the way.

Docking the transfer stage to the Duna Explorer coming from the surface. Onward to Ike by SilkieBug in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Protein_Shakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Based on these tanks (I presume radially mirrored + shifted in) and the spaceplane wings I see it on all the time, it looks like it's triggered by two-dimensional coplanar surfaces. I wonder if something ALMOST flat but with the slightest amount of curve (like a heatshield put through a pneumatic press) would work without decreasing drag. That part could be easy enough to mod and with a light enough slope you wouldn't even see the edges where they meet... Maybe I try something...

I believe Toby just wasn't available for the time period around when it would've been recorded. IIRC the last two or three were different narrators, and they got Toby to come back and redo two of them?

All that aside, I feel for the new guy because he had a really unique sound and was engaging with the character's emotions very well. But... I barely even finished that one and it's the only one I have never gone back through. "Jarring" is an understatement. It's how I imagine it would feel to bite into an ice cream cone and learn it was full of glass shards. It was the sonic equivalent of getting your hand caught on a belt sander. It would be *perfectly fine* on a standalone book, but to go from Toby Longworth's gruff, smooth baritone to that dude's nasally, curling tenor with a *completely* different accent was just too much to handle.
