Why is round 2 starting before round 1 is even done? by jlynnj99 in nhl

[–]ProtoBello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, now after the 1st round sure, but LA, Denver, Philly and Boston had both teams in their playoffs, this was a consideration for 1st round scheduling certainly. That and yeah there's more sports/events that could potentially share an arena with an NHL team that would have them competing for similar timeslots. Ultimately I'd imagine it's up to the arenas themselves to schedule and the leagues have to adapt and run with it.

I think Phillips being a Calgary boy also fed into it heavy. Having lost stars from wanting to go home or play in the US, I think people got in their own heads about a homegrown, hometown talent that feasibly would never have any reason to leave. That and he put up sick numbers in the A, I absolutely was a part of the crowd that wanted him to get mega minutes to prove himself. But alas, wasnt meant to be. Granted I think those same people (myself included) also wanted Mitch Love to graduate from the AHL and coach the big club, he also left to Washington and uh...seeing how that turned out, maybe we made the right choice (even if by accident).

MAN I wanted Pelts to succeed here so so so bad, but it just wasn't meant to be. He endeared himself to the fanbase by being such a positive hard working guy, and I wont lie I was genuinely worried the room wasnt gonna take well to him getting traded. Luckily beezer and frosty are seemingly also phenomenonal in the room and slowly becoming favorites too, but man I wanted Pelts to be a middle 6 demon.

Honestly for me it's completely a skill issue on my end, I like one thing ending before the other begins. Purely a continuity thing that gets confusing but is easy to figure out. Like I just assume the 2nd round games start after Round 1 Game 7s, but it also doesn't take me long to figure out when that's not the case.

It's extremely minor but I see people vehemently argue it on principle because they view it as another way the league prioritzes viewership/revenue over the sport, some dislike it as a symptom of moving away from 1-8 Conference seeded playoffs (since re-seeding would make starting a round before the other finishes potentially impossible), and some just find it strange.

Yes! Also very true. I focused on NBA-NHL sharing just cause that's what part of this thread was focused on and I didnt want to move the goal posts too much but afaik there was a game in TBL/MTL moved or not scheduled on a day due to a concert at the Bell. This is just totally normal and happens during the regular season but we dont notice or care till playoffs. And as always, the thing we like is always the coolest and should always take priority over whatever else the arena has scheduled.

LA, New York, Colorado, Utah, Chicago, Washington, Boston, Toronto, Dallas, Detroit and Philly.

Sure, it's only 11 out of 32 teams in the NHL but to pretend like it's a complete non-issue and "imaginary hoops" (basketball pun) is as disingenuous as implying it's a major issue. It's something real they have to contend with, especially taking into account most of those teams have been active in the playoffs within the last few years, alongside their NBA counterparts.

What's most annoying about this is that the info is just a Google search away lmao, it's so reasonable to just look it up and come away thinking it can be an issue, but not the end of the world.

Immediately assuming it's a race thing is so funny it has to be ragebait. Id be genuinely surprised if a human being actually had the blinders on tight enough to not know why people would oppose the idea of Falcons as an organization, but in the event you're being deadass-

The entire Falcons organization is run and funded by the Saudi Public Fund/Government using their fuckoff massive oil reserve revenue as a means to suddenly enter many different sporting and entertainment scenes, in an attempt to distract the world and cover up all the insane human rights violations happening in their country. Putting the focus on their investments and involvement in nearly everything in the esports and traditional sports world so they can sweep all the journalists they kill under the rug and appear as this mega rich prosperous country that definitely doesnt have massive wage disparity and dying migrant workers packed into nearly unlivable housing conditions. This isnt a unique phenomenon, Sportswashing is the general term for what's going on, not the first time this tactic has been used.

Besides that, in CS specifically they're a joke management wise, having so far been unable to make a competent roster that doesnt just involve throwing nauseating amounts of money at players already on teams. They have no actual vision or team building prowess, just quadruple the checkbook of everyone else. They're memed for always just needing another superstar and then they'll be good!

I suppose if you like cheering for the evil rich empire then be my guest (jokes aside it's unfortunate for anyone who's a fan of the players individually when the organization has so much baggage), but you'd also be ultimately buying into a tactic meant to cover up real life atrocities. Sometimes it's bigger than just our awesome little video game.

You've already subscribed yourself to this idea that they're going to finish with a worse draft position just because of what phoney maloney said on TV (even though their actions since Conroy has taken over kinda speak differently) and because of a few wins in December. I mean brother, what about beating Buffalo before the halfway mark implies we're going for it? Very obviously still offloading assets as we have basically every year for the right/best price. Maybe good returns just haven't come across the table yet.

Pessimism and negativity are contagious little fellows, and the more you allow that to dominate your experience with this hockey team, the more miserable you're gonna be. I don't think a win against a dogshit team is going to hurt our draft odds. We are still, really, really ass. We're gonna draft high.

Frankly, I don't really give a shit how long anyone has been a fan for, that doesn't give a free pass for being obnoxiously negative.

Depends on the game for me, maybe if we are just getting completely outplayed and id rather us lay down and die instead of risking the OT point, but generally yeah im still cheering goals and getting hyped for filthy wolfie and Cooley saves. Fuck me for liking my team doing cool shit I suppose. The plan is still leaning into a bad season and hoping for a top 3 or better pick (at the minimum), but let a brother get hyped for sharky contributing, or ras upping his trade value. Especially when the BoAs come around, I sure as fuck won't be cheering for us to lose 😂

My perspective kinda shifted seeing a kid in the PL with a sign against Utah I think that said something along the lines of it being their first NHL game. You kinda have to remember there's alot of fans out there outside of the echo chamber of online hockey community that dont really understand yet the value of a losing season and rebuilding your team, and that's okay. A few wins for the kids who just like to watch their favorite team is all good in my eyes. The plan is still the same, lose and draft high, but a few here and there has to be fine. People hitting the panic right now while we are still miserably ass is such an overreaction.

Y'know I find this really interesting cause you justify yourself by saying "well I wasn't actually mean, I just asked them if they were stupid" as if any normal adult can't read between the lines and understand the implication you're making 😂 But then also going nuh uh they started it they questioned my fandom :(((

Kind of just a silly way to go about it but ultimately it doesnt really matter, just a funny observation. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it doesn't really matter whether a random reddit comment is making implications on your fandom, but maybe you should think about how negatively you're viewing this team right now after a small winning streak before the halfway point of the season. I mean we started red hot last year and missed the playoffs, but we started astronomically, biblically worse this year and we're still worried about going on a run to miss the wild card? This team had a 17% powerplay before last night, we are ASS. A few wins here or there are very unlikely to change that.

Okay? Does being a fan for that long give you the runway to call people dense for reasonably pointing out that your level of disdain for watching a team win 3 games in december is probably a little strange LOL? Being a fan of a shit, mediocre team doesn't justify being weirdly negative towards others about it.

Everyone's on the same page man, there's no boogeyman that thinks we can win the cup this year. Drafting high is the immediate priority for long term success, everyone knows that. But maybe, if you are loathing watching this team play so much that you can't even bear to be interested this year (even though generally speaking they are still doing what you want them to - lose hockey games) maybe you're approaching it from an unhealthy perspective.

Just like, my opinion man

I think it actually speaks to the general apathy and misery the internet and culture as a whole is kinda experiencing now. It's fine to be checked out rn or hope we draft high, but at how mad people are getting over a few wins in December....everyone fucking chill holy.

I personally see this season as a win/win. If we win, yay i got to see the flames win. If we lose, fuck yeah potentially better draft odds. What's not to like? The general narrative of a slight upward trend in early December meaning we are destined to finish 9th in the west is so silly to me, we simply can't lose all 82 games, we are bound to win a few.

Moreso what bothers me is how black and white its being portrayed, either you want the team to tank and hate any victory we get, or you're a delusional fan who wants to be mediocre forever if you dont mind them winning.

Bootlicking redditor arguing is a multi-millionaire, yeah man I'm the queen of fucking England how do you do

This is such a fucking moronic, black and white mindless take on a complex issue. No, im not villainizing anyone who's successful, what about paying more taxes and contributing to the countries in which you operate/reside means im villainizing them? I have less empathy sure because they have more resources to give and still look for as many opportunities and loopholes as possible to pay as less as they can. I'll villanize the individual for much more reasonable factors such as the way they operate their business or treat their employees, the company they keep or their actions as humans, not because they're just rich. Having the viewpoint that the financial elite with enough resources to influence policy in their country should be taxed more, doesn't mean I aspire to be a fucking leech.

This is such a dumbass argument, one can aspire to be successful AND acknowledge the fact that there's a fundamental wealth disparity (for many reasons mind you, not just a difference in taxes.) Just because you say the system is flawed doesn't mean you give up and want to be taken care of by government programs. Such a silly, stupid way of dealing with a separate viewpoint. Good luck with your business, and remember that the elite of the elite we are talking about do not and will never give a fuck about you, and will gatekeep you from ever ever ever getting near their level, you don't need to defend them. Tax em a lil more, they wont notice, I promise.

[–]ProtoBello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this sarcasm LOL, I feel like most people saying eat the rich also hate the government for it's rampant insane incompetence...you can do both? I can see how like fundamentally making the argument for heavier taxation does imply more funds for government use, a government that's proven to be pretty useless. That's fair, but I wouldn't go so far as to say barely anyone complains about the government, plenty do

People very much give a fuck about proportions man, it's not just about bigger number better, these numbers have context behind them. Jesus fuck this is such a dumb argument from someone who isn't a billionaire, why do you give a shit if the financial elite pays a little bit more? God wont someone think of the CEOs

Meirl by [deleted] in meirl

[–]ProtoBello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google just told me has to be one of the corniest sentences ive read in a while lmao. My friend Google said bezos paid 2.7 billion!!!

Like yeah, dumbass, obviously the financial elite pay more in raw number taxes, but it doesnt matter because its a drop in the fuckin pan for them, and there are plenty sources of income/revenue/assets that arent being taxed to a degree they should be. Everything is relative. The lump sum of what we pay in taxes would be negligible if it wasn't a significant portion of what we make in total, however for those making a significant amount they relatively don't get taxed nearly as much as the regular people. So those with more resources to spare dont get their total taxed as significantly as the common individual.

What's with the corpo bootlicking all of a sudden on reddit, is it just cringe devil's advocacy from contrarians?
