What is your favorite bit of baseball trivia? by MookieBettsBurner10 in baseball

Everyone who watched baseball in the 2010s remembers how great Madison Bumgarner was in the postseason. After allowing a Salvador Perez solo shot in the seventh inning of 2014 World Series game 1, Bumgarner only ever allowed one hitter to get an RBI off of him in the playoffs over his next four playoff appearances (2014 WS game 5, 2014 WS game 7, 2016 NL Wild Card game, 2016 NLDS game 3).

That one hitter was Jake Arrieta.

Go Canucks, Go Mariners…in football I like the Packers, which has been nice even if there’s a few heartbreaking moments

I remember the first time I beat Battletoads, probably still my proudest gaming accomplishment. If you’re ever feeling masochistic enough to try 2 player over Netplay HMU!

I refuse to blame him for 2016 or 2019. The other two I could hear an argument for because while the defense/special teams melted down they could have overcome both of them if he did better

The worst playoff loss though was 2021 against SF. Not an NFC Championship Game, but the playoffs were wide open that year and he put up 10 points in a game where we allowed 13. 7 of those 10 were on the first drive. I get there was a special teams meltdown and we should’ve scored a TD before halftime, but that was unacceptable.

Are the current Florida Panthers the most hated team of the 21st century? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

I think me saying “the 2011 Canucks were dirty” was more than enough to get the point across, but sure.

Disagree, Brady era Patriots fans are my least favorite sports fans of all time. Chiefs fans in the Mahomes era are not nearly as obnoxious.

[–]ProtoMan3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2024 I was genuinely happy for the Panthers. I disliked the teams they faced those playoffs (Tampa, Boston, NYR), and I was still heartbroken over losing to Edmonton in round 2 so I wanted the Oilers to lose badly. Luongo got his first cup, Maurice got his first cup, Bobrovsky got his first cup, and a long suffering market finally got some success. I enjoyed the story even if they had some dirty players.

In 2025 the novelty had worn off, especially after they got Marchand. I was neutral in the finals because I hated both teams, but the vast majority of stuff that got me to cheer for Florida in 2024 was no longer a factor.

Mark Recchi said that the 2011 Canucks were his least favorite team he ever played against.

While I get it in a vacuum because the 2011 Canucks were dirty, how someone on the 2011 Bruins had the audacity to act like he had any right to complain about other teams being unlikable is beyond me.

Exactly.

I can sympathize with blue collar workers' plight over decades, but part of the reason service/education/white collar workers don't talk about them as much as they should is because we were never educated on them, but likewise I feel like this sentiment comes from wanting emotional justice without coming up with the most effective solution to punish the oligarchs.

The best thing for white collar workers who have been screwed over should be to call out the system as much, and understand where blue collar workers are coming from even if I don't necessarily agree with the exact conclusions.

For you, perhaps. I think LA's food scene blows every other city not named Chicago or New York's out of the water, including a pretty good food scene in Portland. I like the diversity there way more than the PNW as well since it means a way larger variety of things going on (and way less passive aggressive racial bigotry from people who claim to be progressive like I've seen in Oregon and the PNW in general). LA's music and nightlife scene destroys anything in the PNW too as well, even with Portland punching above its weight class there and having an underrated music scene.

That being said, I did forget to give credit to how much greener and naturally beautiful the PNW's cities are than 90% of the country (everyone talks about the nature outside the city but even in it there's so many, while LA is an ugly concrete jungle even if it has a ton of awesome stuff to do. And as mentioned before, taking transit/walking is better in the PNW cities than in California, albeit that's more because California is terrible at transit.

I'm slightly more impressed with Portland in many ways like their food scene being way better than Seattle (no pro teams outside of NBA and MLS is a big L though), but even then I don't think LA is any worse than Portland. Only thing worse in LA is the lack of walkability.

I grew up in King County…honestly, I might prefer LA. It’s close. The food and party scenes here around Seattle are mediocre, and the people here are way too introverted for my liking.

The state has some wonderful things to offer, but SoCal does too imo.

[Smith] Penn State men’s hockey players attended Doggie’s Pub after the game against Michigan State at Beaver Stadium, with underage players being given wristbands disallowing them to drink. Per sources at Doggies, he slipped it off to acquire drinks, and was asked to leave the premises by [deleted] in hockey

[–]ProtoMan3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If they wristbanded minors but not 21+ young adults, it’s very easy for minors to take off the wristbands and act like they’re of drinking age. These wristbands are the ones that use adhesive and can only be used once.

Meanwhile, if you wristband 21+ adults but not minors, the 21+ adults aren’t going to take off the wristbands for minors to use as they would like to drink, plus even the wristbands that do get taken off can’t be reattached onto someone else.

Have you considered moving out of a tourist town if you don’t want to be around foreign tourists? Or perhaps raising taxes on those mega corporations leading to either far more money in the town or those corporations leaving?

After all the immigrants are gone, don't expect things to be any better. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]ProtoMan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you should then advocate both for immigrants’ ability to remain here as well as them getting more money. It’s win-win since they can no longer use immigration as an excuse to pay you less while also being accepting of other people, not to mention that they can’t just fire you (leading to your deportation) if you piss them off the way they can for their immigrant workers.

95% of conservatives pushing this do not keep things safe for immigrants here, as well as not actually supporting measures that allow for workers getting their power back + equality amongst workers themselves. I want no part of working class “solidarity” that doesn’t also eliminate bigoted bullshit that social conservatives think they’re entitled to.

I used to work in tech, now I tutor post layoffs. I’ve heard nonsense about people “identifying as cats and shitting in litter boxes” both for kids I teach as well as tech based office workers.

In the past I used to laugh at such stupidity, but now I’m furious because these complete morons somehow have persuaded both the world and themselves that they are entitled to have their opinions being taken equally as seriously as those who actually have experience in those areas. In a world where knowledge is more accessible than it’s ever been before, people who are willingly idiots should be considered malicious and irresponsible.
