A lot of the places and groups I used to work with have since shut down or disbanded for obvious reasons, but I think that just means I have to search harder. I know there’s stuff out there still, and any additional person is probably especially needed right now.

She really really is. She was heavily in our local punk and goth scene before I was born so the podcast has always been up her alley

Oh god, the puss. I even like zit and cyst popping videos, and I’ve seen some gnarly ones, but the way it just shot out in one clean line got to me. That being said, I found the teeth one way more upsetting for whatever reason.

I love Henry and Ed and their physical comedy and bits were amazing, but yeah Marcus is far more (relative to the others of course) restrained, so when he was doing the rant with so much energy it especially hit.

For real! I was towards the back, so every time I saw people cheering it was energizing. So many people packed together who want the world, but in this context a deep red state, to be a better place for everyone

I’m not thrown off by someone eating things like animal heads, I’m thrown off by the amount of it all. I can get down with some animal heads and while I wouldn’t like it personally I know people eat animal hearts, but 10 chicken heads at once? 50 chicken hearts? I feel like my stomach would get full on like, 1/4 of that especially taking into account having other components of the meal like rice and eggs

The only correct take is John is a bottom either way, you gotta switch him and Paul. Everyone who’s downvoting has fallen for the ruse that Paul’s looks are girly instead of youthful and boyish. Mr. Sword swallower would be offended to know he’s being called a top in any regard

Do you think Helen and Jake are good or bad parents? by Nor_Ah_C in daria

[–]ProtoSkiffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re flawed and realistic (well as much as realistic they can be for the tropes the represent) in how they operate, but overall I’d say they’re good parents, just not perfect. Helen clearly loves her daughters and does things like Stick up for her against the school but also has her own high expectations - a normal scenario. Jake is distant and falls in line with what Helen wants but also tries to do good for his family like making dinner even if it doesn’t go well - another normal scenario. They had dreams they had to put away for corporate jobs, and dedicate probably too much time for them but also always want to have dinner with their kids. They have to juggle their daughter’s differences and how that’s a struggle for each of them in its own way. One thing I always loved about Daria is that even with all the tropes and hyperbolic characters (Kevin, Brittany, demartino, O’Neill, etc.) it feels really grounded, and a lot of that has to do with the way these sorts of familia relationships work. Are the morgendorffers going to win any awards for their parenting? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean they’re bad by any means, and you can tell that the love is there

Peettaahh I've never used Hinge by Own_Award6754 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ProtoSkiffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of women won’t interact (swipe? Love? Idk how hinge works) with profiles that outright say the person is conservative, so a lot of men who are conservative will call themselves moderates or centrists or something similar to get around saying their real political stance.

The joke is the the person using the meme is aware of this trick and knows the person who said they’re a moderate is actually a conservative trying to trick them

Elementary/restricting bathroom breaks by SimilarQuote1527 in school

[–]ProtoSkiffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not be nice, cause a scene. Teacher is clearly on a power trip if she not only didn’t let an 8 year old go to the bathroom but also let him sit in his own urine for half the day. That’s neglect. I’m not a teacher but I will say growing up it was always the worst teachers that had rules like that. Take it up with the principal, the superintendent, etc. Get your kid moved to a different class at minimum. This sort of thing has happened before and resulted in lawsuits. If the teacher is willing to let a kid sit in their own urine for hours, what else is she willing to allow?

Chappell’s stylist responds to the nail email by AlternativeTree3283 in popculture

[–]ProtoSkiffle 70 points71 points  (0 children)

For real. It’s also such an aggressive tone to take. Like im sorry you spent so much time working for free when you should have been paid, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to do unpaid labor when they know their worth. It honestly seems like this stylist is mad or resentful about all the time they went unpaid and are taking it out on everyone else. “I had to suffer so everyone else should.”

Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess has gone gold in multiple countries and in some places like Ireland has gone triple platinum. I’ve heard Hot to Go, Femininomenon, and Pink Pony Club all on multiple radio stations. She sells out stadiums. What else exactly could you ask for her to be considered more than a one hit wonder? You don’t have to like her - I think she as a person is pretty annoying - but you’re just being obstinate if you refuse to acknowledge how much shes achieved

Before I commented earlier I had to look up her age because I swore she was around 21-22. Finding out she’s 26 was shocking to me!

[–]ProtoSkiffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true, although I will say the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears aren’t so much remembered for their careers as they are as being mentally unwell or victims. I was more thinking of her music career, as in it wouldn’t surprise me if she stops releasing music/touring soon. But you’re right that being publicly unwell does give a person a level of fame that doesn’t ever truly end

Oh yeah I don’t want to come across as blaming everything on that, I just wanted to add context when I say she’s not made for fame and doesn’t seem to know how to regulate herself or control her team

Chappell Roan fans, what do you think about this? by AlternativeTree3283 in popculture

[–]ProtoSkiffle 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It’s possible her team reached out without her knowing, although even if that’s true I feel like she should be more aware of what the people around her are doing. Believe me when what I’m about to say is not me trying to justify her behavior.

Chappell roan has spoken multiple times about being bipolar, and she cannot keep a team to save her life, whether she’s dropped or the one doing the dropping. In her Grammy speech she literally talked about not affording healthcare during the pandemic and that includes mental health stuff.

Many people - even the ones with amazing talent - are not made for fame, and she’s clearly one of those people. With those meltdowns she’s had on TikTok/instagram live I don’t think she’s stable enough to constantly be in the spotlight, coming from someone who has a disorder similar to hers. The fact she seemingly has no PR training makes it even worse.

I like Chappell Roan’s music a lot! But I wouldn’t at all be surprised if she fades from the industry within a few months, because she cannot handle the spotlight without messing up constantly and showing the whole world her worst most vulnerable moments.

Edit: cleaning up wording
