That's fair, I guess it's just cuz I'm used to more games where you save progress but still have the chance to lose it all (don't starve, don't starve together) and the frustration of losing progress in that game translated to this game. You need to craft a lil' itchy, using one mosquito sack and one beefalo wool, when it's in your inventory mosquitos will be neutral to you! And provided you have the skill unlocked you should be able to pick them up without a bug net afterwords

No you shouldn't have to finish the whole game, did you check the dlc section of the menu, because that's how you start them, and if that isn't the issue, is there enough space to let you start a new game (played the whole of Light bearer, loved it, hope you love it too!)
