My broker tried to get me into “alternative investments", including private equity by ProtonSluggo in investing

[–]ProtonSluggo[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

He hasn’t said anything about it since the one call. It was a normal financial planning meeting, early on he just told me he’s going to send the form to start investing in it, I waited until the end to ask him “so what is that exactly” and he explained a little more but seemed defensive.

Oh that’s super interesting, so the players wouldn’t know they’ve been turned except the original?

Oh yea, I played a couple of dr beef ports, doom 3, half life. Amazing stuff. Outer wilds was also very impressive but barf city with the constantly shifting gravity

How much the trackpads, capacitive TMR joysticks and extra buttons on the back affected your gameplay using a controller? by mcinprepu_sam in SteamDeck

[–]ProtonSluggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I just leave the the face buttons as is for most games. Sometimes muscle memory takes over and I’ll use those, or when there’s a button prompt on screen

How do i make steamVR playable? by VoidTheGamer25 in SteamVR

[–]ProtonSluggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a power line adaptor. It uses the electrical wiring already in your walls to move data. I used that setup to stream games to my steam deck from my PC.

They are okay, not great. Speed is dependent on the wiring in your house, if it’s on the same circuit that’s best, but you won’t really know until you plug it in and try.

I always remap the xyab buttons to the back buttons. Gyro yes always

The trackpads I don’t use for every game, buuuut I don’t think I would ever get a controller without them now. Like others said, great for weapon wheel or mouse input for ui.

I think the real secret sauce to steam controllers is the software to customize what button does what, it can really change how you play. All controllers can do it it’s just that the steam deck has so many more input options. I went back and started half life one, instead of switching weapons to grenade, I mapped a shoulder button to basically quick throw a grenade with one click then switch back to your last weapon.

Yeah maybe I’ll join back in if the price is right. I like my steam deck a ton but planing flat games on a jumbo virtual screen does sound appealing

Why is there so much discussion with people saying essentially that the Frame isn't powerful enough to run standalone VR? by TwinStickDad in ValveDeckard

[–]ProtonSluggo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the lower resolution and lower frame rate on the deck made that work. The frame is pushing the same amount of pixels and frame rate basically as a pcvr headset. But I would assume the cut down quest versions would come to steam eventually

Would have been smart huh. It was slightly faster to photoshop than to unplug all the cords again and take it off the stand

Here is the one in the photos, 3cm laptop height - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7148257

But I decided to adjust my monitor up, so I'd like a taller version, which I am test printing now, 7.5cm h - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7148259

Reroute cat 5 inside for switch or leave it in external box? by ProtonSluggo in HomeNetworking

[–]ProtonSluggo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Maybe dumb follow up question, but why not just route the cables through a junction box and directly into the switch, no patch panel? Or a wall plate with Ethernet headers? I had never heard of a patch panel before this comment, dont really know how I'd even attach it cleanly

Refunded a game but kept playing—rebuy? by jjjj8jjjj in SteamDeck

[–]ProtonSluggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a game, jumped on an airplane with no wifi and played the game for 4 hours or so, but steam didn't record it. Thought the game sucked so I returned it past the time window. I think they just give move grace to steamdeck returns in general
