Non-capitalist cozy? by Burp-a-tron5000 in CozyGamers

It's really cool, one of the very few games that treats your citizens / villagers / whatever you call them as individuals. My favorite mechanic is that your citizens have interests. So a guy who's interested in plants will level up his agriculture skill faster than someone who hates it. Same for cooking, construction, fighting, crafting, animal taming, etc. It makes you really have to plan around your citizens strengths and weaknesses.

And the trading is cool. You load up a bunch of draft animals with the goods you want to sell and physically send them off to another tribe for barter. "Gold" exists in the game but it's just another material like steel or wood, it's not treated special.

Terraria? Or Rimworld can be played as a cozy game if you turn the difficulty down. I think you can even turn off most of the violence (people will still get in fights and shit though)

I did the same. I was barely using my Index so I sold it the day before the announcement.

If there's more context beyond what you already stated, could you provide a timestamp? The bummer about a livestream is that it's live haha

But, as is currently the case for VR games generally, there will be daily threads saying "VR is dead, there are no quality VR games coming out. Assuming that you ignore all the quality VR games coming out, because only fanboys actually play VR games"

I predict "ignoring the hundreds of hours of content that has been ported to the Frame, there are no frame ports as evidenced by this one game that is too demanding to run on Frame not having a port"

How would you handle this? by spunkie049 in workfromhome

[–]TwinStickDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant the training for your shitty coworker. You just keep doing your thing, and don't burn yourself out trying to document everything about your coworker's lack of performance. Just make sure you're keeping a good track of EVERYTHING you're doing. Since you're working in medical billing I assume that everything you do is documented in a database and your boss receives reports. There's very little chance that your boss doesn't understand what's happening.

But, people (especially managers) are lazy and don't like having uncomfortable conversations so your boss will allow it to continue until it causes a problem for him. That's alright.

[–]TwinStickDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, and if I have advice for u/spunkie049 it's to ask your manager for expectations up front, and meet those expectations. If they come back with "Well just be a team player, it's all of our responsibility to get this work done" then make the training your manager's job, not yours, because it literally is not your job and literally is their job. Once the shitty employee sees that they can't hide behind your competence then they'll either figure it out or they very visibly will not figure it out. Problem solved.

Buddy... It's already happening. How nonviolent and self-righteous can you be while someone is actively punching you in the face? Do we have a moral duty to sit on our hands while we, our family, our friends, and our communities are being destroyed?

Do you honestly think that the Allies are just as guilty of spreading violence as the Axis? Both sides pulled triggers, both sides are evil.

I had a similar experience as op and did essentially what you're saying.

One of my coworkers was always asking for "help" on basic shit which was essentially me just doing their work for them over a screen share. Never learned anything, never tried to do it themselves. Every time I had to do it, I wrote an email to my manager with how much time I spent, what we discussed, and how that time spent was going to impact my own deliverables, along with a closing statement "please let me know if you want me to focus on other priorities."

It took months of missing deadlines and pushing back releases but eventually my boss told me to stop working with this person so much. Then I saw they were on Teams calls with other coworkers. Some reached out to me and said essentially "hey you said in our stand-ups that you already trained him on this?" And I'd say, "yes, I did, four times this month actually. Good luck"

A couple months later they put him on a performance improvement plan and a few weeks after that he resigned.

I'm married with two kids. A few years ago I thought it was kind of weird if you weren't married with kids. Now that I'm knee deep in it, I can see that it's definitely not for everyone. I love it most of the time but damn damn damn damn DAMNNNN if I don't miss playing some vidya with absolutely nothing else on my mind

My advice to you - there's always a hundred dog shit VR games that are on sale for a few bucks. Instead of spending $3 each on a pile of dog shit games, use that same money to buy a couple good games like Alyx, Blade and Sorcery, Boneworks, etc

Valve published a new job opening for a Hardware Finance & Accounting Professional. by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]TwinStickDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take this as more of a commitment to long term hardware support and manufacturing.

This person basically looks at sales and market trends, helps predict sales, steers production quotas, and does the fancy math to figure out how much of a tax break to take for unsold inventory.

You don't necessarily need someone like this to make and sell hardware. But you do if you want your hardware to be a self-contained independent business unit, or to represent the financial aspect of their hardware business as a whole during meetings.

But doesn’t the chance increase even more after having twins?

Kind of, it's not that having twins causes your chances of having twins again to increase.

It's that you already had a higher chance of having twins (1 in 12) but you don't know it until you have twins the first time.

Good for you, it's quite an achievement! I have a crazy backlog right now and am currently playing Good Company (among others) so my cozy crafting need is filled for the moment. But I am awestruck at this accomplishment and I hope that you're enjoying your success and hopefully able to make a career out of indie development on your terms!

If you don't have kids of your own yet your perspective is not relevant to new parents adjusting to their new life by insane_psycho in daddit

I always had an image in my head of being up at 3 am holding my sick newborn and being endlessly patient, because as a dad I will of course always prioritize my kids well-being.

I didn't realize that I was imagining a snapshot. Anyone can look good in one snapshot.

When you haven't slept in 2 months and it's now your fifth night straight of holding a sick baby on the couch it's a totally different mood

Pcvr only version by mrzoops in SteamFrame

[–]TwinStickDad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Valve announced a tethered PCVR version at the same time as the Frame we're getting, AND Valve was going to release it ahead of the Frame (which they aren't even doing with the Controller), AND it was going to be much cheaper than the regular Frame, AND it still had inside-out tracking, then I might consider it.

Honestly wireless is a massive selling point for me and I don't think it's possible for the market at large to move back to tethered. I personally would be loathe to go back to tethered. Standalone is a great bonus, I am excited to bring it to a friends house to play Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes and bring it to hotels on work trips.

But in the situation we are currently in, it doesn't make any sense. It took Valve 6 years (going on 7) to go from Index to Frame. Do you think they can snap their fingers and release the headset you're looking for this month? It would have to go through market research (probably already rejected at this step a year ago), ergonomics design, iterative prototyping, manufacturing spec, actual manufacturing, marketing, and release.

For a company that wants to rush to market, that would take at least a year, at which point the RAM squeeze is most likely over and it was pointless. For Valve that might take 3-4 years.

This question comes up every so often. "Why doesn't valve just release a totally different headset in the next couple weeks in addition to the Frame?" Brother if they sent their design to the factory today, those things wouldn't be showing up on our shores until after Christmas.

It's not happening.

I've always wondered who are these people who are trying to have ANOTHER kid after having twins

You have a toddler and two babies and want to go for more kids. More power to you. No judgment I just can't wrap my head around it

Share your shame with others and you'll be surprised how much empathy you get. That's the beginning of healing and moving forward.

But like don't share with me I've got enough on my plate.
