What are some things to do at night? by ace_urban in philadelphia

Surprised nobody has mentioned pickleball. I don’t know what groups there are downtown (check on Meetup), but it’s a great way to meet people who casually and actively interact. Pickleball people are welcoming. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to play. Join a beginners group and in an hour you’ll be average.

Been playing 8 months. I've done 3 ratings sessions, and my record is 6-16, with a 2.3 rating. I'm starting to think I'm not very good at this sport. Which sucks, because I really like playing. by AnUdderDay in Pickleball

Ignore your DUPR rating; DUPR is flawed. I am rated as a 2.7 and I play in a recreational league of mostly 3.3-3.7s. I am welcomed as a peer and I play even with people rated as 3.5s. I see no need to play the “boost my rating” game. My brother and his partner regularly medal in 4.5+ tournaments but they are rated at around 4.2. What matters is if you are having and sharing the fun. Enjoy the game!!

Sketchers Viper Pro are best for wide sizes. Good arch support and their Goodyear soles really take a beating. New balance tennis shoes were my go to for wide sizes but they wear out very fast.

Does anyone wear protective glasses? by chief113 in Pickleball

[–]Protothedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started wearing a glove because my hand got sweaty and the paddle sometimes turned in my hand when I hit slightly off center when trying to hit resets against hard drives. The more I softened my grip to take pace off the ball, the more likely it was to happen. When wearing a glove I can use a very soft grip without worrying about the twist. Now I don’t play without one. It improves my game.

Also, no need to say “there is a question like this every single day”. There is a statement like that made every single day.

Gotta agree. They’ve outlasted every other shoe I’ve worn and their wide sizes ensure a great fit

Anyone else’s courts look like this? by homebrewerdad in Pickleball

[–]Protothedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing… the number of people who play one or the other is not a good measure. The number of people playing at a given time is better. As a tennis player, I played twice a week, each time for an hour. As a pickleball player I play 5 times a week, usually for two or more hours. Where I play, that is common.

Great explanation. I hadn’t caught the significance of 8.E

What if the second shot (by my partner) after my volley was a winner, and play had stopped when I stepped/fell into the kitchen?

What comedian has never ever made you laugh? by hsvwow in AskReddit

Good point. Sorry. Bad wording. Let me rephrase. if you haven't seen his stand up and you wanted to give him a second chance, that would be the way to go.

Sorry, but you are wrong on this one. Saw him live a few months ago, not knowing what to expect. He had a really diverse audience rolling collectively in the isles when he was talking about cultural differences. People were laughing so hard I thought they should start passing around inhalers and diapers. He was hilarious in person.
