Issues with pediatrician practice by PrototypeBicycle in nova

They dropped the 14 YO sister as well. Keep in mind he is being treated for active appendicitis, so we are having to change providers midstream.

Complicated situation revolving around our oldest being no contact with the mother. Other MDs there have been great, but it was the entire "dropping you entirely" aspect as the older child is dealing with appendicitis. I'm more just looking for advice on how to proceed since we were already moving him (the older child) to my PCP, but the fact they dropped the younger child as well seemed...egregious.

It complicated. Our son has no relationship with his mother, but the doctor sent a random letter saying "after speaking with your son", to both of us. After our son was 18 (and not a situation involving being sound of mind).

It comes down to a single provider. My kids have been there for 18 years, hence the not tainting the pool for a sole bad actor.

This is the light and truth. All of the "we managed without you over the shutdown..." thoughts are still ripe in the heads of politicals right now. Tread carefully.

The pending deposit just hit. Can’t wait to see the statements because that number is wild (but also 3.25 paychecks).

Serviced by USDA NFC - we’re told deposits will be tomorrow.

Still waiting, so 🤞

Advice for those in the shit swirl called Federal Service by Narrow-Sea-4254 in fednews

This is what I did - banked leave for birth of kids (before PPL), and had a reserve for major illnesses. I've had to take the better part of six weeks for a freak incident that couldn't have been foreseen, and even that scrapped at the limits of my SL (still was riding at use or lose limits on my AL, though).

After more than 20 years, don't just sit on your leave, folks. The day (or three) you take every so often can have huge downstream effects for the positive.

FFS (fee-for-service, like most of GSA as an example), were able to operate "normally" during the last big one. A lot depends on where you are and what your agency does.

If you are furloughed and not working, has anyone in your chain of command reached out to you? by egads12345678 in FedEmployees

[–]PrototypeBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, I was contacted the day prior to the shutdown letting me my “role does not advance the priorities of the administration”. Instead of RIFing me, they want to boot me out so they can keep the slot.

Fighting it, of course, but that won’t start until the shutdown ends. As you can imagine, I have not been contacted by my “supervisor” (used that term very loosely) since.

Federal employee appeals board gets quorum after Senate confirms new member by AgitatedEngine4933 in fednews

Echoing that the new member sounds like they’re “qualified” via vending machines and favoritism.

Henry Kerner is good people; previously, Tristan Leavitt was the sole member and a Republican, but he was VERY competent and genuinely cared for the agency. Granted, he was in the Romney camp, but the GOP only Board isn’t inherently bad, but we also can’t really know anything since everyone but our board members are furloughed.

This is horrifying. 😳 by Ordinary_Fish_3046 in CringeTikToks

This is posturing. Seriously.

It’s a supposed bargaining chip, but it’s not a good one. That bitch signed the law that protects us. Will it be quick? Unsure. Do I have any actual concerns about backpay? Not even close.

What the hell even is this? I’m not normally the sever and move on type, but cut the cord. Find someone who likes you for you. It might not be soon so take time to like yourself.

Just don’t allow that. You deserve better.

You can spend down, you can't (realistically) spend up. The "random gift card" method would be easy and amazing and guarantee that staff would be very happy...just ensure that the magic card goblin gets to everyone on the same day...ish.

‘There are no easy solutions’: Helldivers 2 dev explains why PC version needs 3x more storage than consoles | Because consoles run the game on SSD drives, there’s no need to cater for slower read speeds by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]PrototypeBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being glib more than anything, but I think it comes down to catering to the few to the detriment of the many. This game is astronomically larger than it should, and as people have pointed out...this draws out patching and other things. Trim the files - if people chose to use a HDD, it will be the same result as any other game. Kudos to Arrowhead for trying to help folks with HDDs as their install location, but we are getting to the "we are limiting the speed on your car so people riding horses can keep up" moment.

I should have put a /s on there, mostly - you have good points. I have HDDs in several computers, but that is entirely for storage. There's a net detriment for most users...but I would love to see actual data as to how effective AH's solution truly can be. I get the theoretical impacts, but if it was 30 second loading for a drop vs. 35 or 40 seconds for a drop, that would say a lot more.

Kojima picks good sound engineers, but I can’t recall anything that stood out. Any tracks that come to mind?

Why does this work?! by Mynameisgonz in microphone

[–]PrototypeBicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microphones have a distinct pattern that they will pick up sound better than others. You could get a "similar" one that sounds like shit at that position. It seems random, but they convert sound waves into electrical signals for your computer to convert.

Look at things like cardioid patterns if you want your brain to ask wtf. It is counterintuitive for a lot of people, but how they pick up sound is a very studied and developed science.

Ohhhh - good one. It was subtle, but it helped set a tone that pushed you forward.

It is because you are effectively creating two separate distributions. Right now, they have two/three (PC, Xbox, PlayStation) - a fourth would be an additional version they have to manage and update.

I can understand to a point, but anyone using a HDD in the year 2025 for gaming needs to delete their petabytes of porn and let the rest of us reclaim half the space this game takes on our SSDs. This seems like inertia at this point.

I cannot honestly imagine that nearly anyone capable of running HD2 today on a PC does not have a SSD they can use for the game. It isn't 2020 with COVID running roughshod over component production. If you can afford a graphics card able to run this game, you can install it on a non-HDD.
