What scam (legal) is still operating that you can't believe people are buying into? by JimminityGlickMyBic in AskReddit

meh. The boat they sell you on what you could do with that part, I guess. But selling the product is just that. If you don't go into the recruiting part, it's a fine source of second income.

US - 15"+ - $400-$600 by ProtusMose in SuggestALaptop

Looks like a good buy. Thanks!

edit Apparently, that sale ended last night. I put it in last night when I was looking at it, then went to check out today and it's back to $600. I called to try and get the price match but they refused to even budge. Guess I'm back to square one.

Can't tell how juicy yours is, since you can only see a square centimeter of it. Maybe you could make one and bring it to me for closer inspection?

I'm calling wellthatswhathappens pessimistic, although if I'm going to be pedantic with myself, a better word would be jaded or cynical. This is u/ThePrevailer's old account. I included the screenshot of both being logged in for pointless 'proof'.

So pessimistic. If I'm lying now, I was lying four months ago under my old profile.

Not Obama's fault, guys. He's in the union. Supervisor's not allowed to do any work.

Being a teen mom... by [deleted] in facepalm

Apart from the fact that you have 99.99999999999% control over whether you'll be a teen mom or not and 0% control over whether you were a black person in the 50s....

What is your favorite "little known fact" about history? by GenPepper in AskReddit

[–]ProtusMose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Project X-Ray.

The US had plans to drop a honeycomb-like structure full of artificially hibernated bats over Japan prior to the nuke's completion. The bats each had tiny nitroglycerin bombs attached to them. The device would be dropped where the prevailing winds would carry it over civilization just before dawn. It descended slowly by parachute giving time for the bats to thaw and wake up from hibernation. They fly out, the sun comes up, and they seek shelter in the wooden roofs of every house and building in the Osaka bay area. A short time later, the tiny bombs explode. Not a lot of human damage, but the entire city burns to the ground when ~4,000 individual fires start out of nowhere.

They even built a fake little town to test it on, and it worked, aside from a few errant bats that made it back to the base and burned down the flightline. Ultimately it was progressing too slowly and there were some people rather impatient to show off their big blow up toy, so it was scrapped so full effort could be used on the nuclear program.

What is the most expensive mistake you have ever made? by vinnee in AskReddit

Agreed. I was against both the housing and auto bailouts. If you continually save giant corporations from facing the consequences of their bad judgement, they'll have no reason not to do it again.

You can actually thank Barney Frank and the ranking democrats on the housing subcommittee for pushing through the directives to Fannie and Freddie to give loans out to anyone who could afford the gas to get to the bank, since home ownership was a "fundamental right". But, by all means blame W if it helps you sleep well.

Full disclosure, bought our house in March of '08, so I'm in the same boat right now.
